    Default sawtooths.........

what is about sawtooths that make them so pleasing to the ear?
whether it be dirty deep ones in techno or trancey ones?

is there some sort of process in the ear/brain that does this?

    just wondering

I think I remember reading that they have the maximum number of harmonics you can possibly pack into a basic waveform. It was either them or squarewaves, can't remember which.

I believe saws have all harmonics, squares have every other and sines have none. I may be wrong though

Yeah, that's pretty much it. You get surprisingly few harmonics before you're out of audible range for most sounds ... it's amazing that htey sound like they do.
