Default something for the looong weekend!!!

I was putting together the tunes I’m might play out this weekend last night, which turned into an impromptu session on the decks and the result is this here mix….
A typical set I try to play, lots of bits n pieces, moving from hyper party stomper tunes, to dark moody hard trance and evil ripping b-lined screeching hardstyle, bit of everything for most ppl…

vestax users commented on the weekend about it's smooth crossfader action, but it's build quality is pretty shitty - the up/down faders r a bit ropey and i've broken 2 crossfaders already (£30 each!)

Cool... just that your levels sound very smooth and gel'd really nicely. One problem I'm having is that one of my cartiges seems to have an improper balance of the left and right chanels and it makes an echo sort of effect... Nasty stuff. Also on the same cart the needle is worn down so it's a lot quieter than the other one and cause there is such a difference in the gain settings it's a bugger to monitor and always has to be adjusted per track on that deck...

    grr!

I could do with brand new mark II 1210's and a lovely new DJM600! - I currently got a Vestax 175A... nice mixer perfect for beginer I feel... but poor for monitoring.

ahh, the levels thing - my mixer has got individual VU metres for each channel then another for the main output - which are independant of each other, by that i mean you dont have to press a button on the VU guide thing to change from the main output and cueing input/output...
that vestax 3 channel (exact name escapes me, but it's one the most popular vestix ones..) doesnt even have the ability to see the level of what your cueing.. so you have to do it blind, 90% of the time it will be too loud or too soft...
so when using mine, the VU metres for each channel is there, infront of you (no remebering to press switches, change the VU display etc..) and the one your playing is next to it, you can match em up exactly....
levels r the most important thing (after beat matching i spose) when mixing imo....
esp if your sound system is running right on that edge (which most of the time it does, cos it sounds wicked at that point)
one bad level can blow the whole thing (if you dont have a limiter/compressor) and coming in too quietly is just as bad, cos the sound technician might turn up the mixing desk
    (mixer->mixing desk->sound processor->amps->speakers)
thus when you next put the levels back to 0, you could cause it to blow (as the signal into the mixing desk goes up, which has already been turned up, cos youre level was to low...)
    make sense?

Cool mate your talking exactly what I was getting at... I can't monitor what I'm cueing and it's a sod sometimes as when I shift basses over or bring in it's either too hard, not enough etc...

Defo going to get a mixer which has more on monitoring as I'm VERY fussy about my mixing and I hate having the smallest thing go wrong.

Any advice on a mixer? £400 to spend!

This package has caught my eye!

    Technics Pack 6

    2 SL1210/1200 Turntables
    1 Pioneer DJM600 Mixer
    2 Audio Technica carts
    2 Technics Slipmats
    1 Headphones + all leads

    £1275.00

    Not bad for the price.

I can then sell my old technics 1210's and Vestax Mixer for £350 and put that towards this package.

    :)
