this will probably sound mental but baby wipes do an amazing job (i used to use the old soap and water number until i discovered that)

yes i've always used soap and water. but it really really annoys me when i keep having to refil the saucepan with hot water.... grrr... and i've got wet toilet tissue everywhere (oo-er!! hahaha)

i'll try this baby wipes tip too. any others?

If you're minted, this is the ultimate way to wash your wax :

Otherwise, I've heard these gadgets are good, but I've never used one. Can't see that they'd get right into the groove though. I reckon they'd only lift surface dust, but if you can pick one up cheaply it might be worth a go:

Soapy water works a treat, but it's a real pain if the centre labels get wet and start to bubble and lift isn't it ?
And I've heard there are record cleaning cloths that are just like those baby wipes, but for records, and they smell nice and minty fresh 8) . Don't know where to buy them though. :?

I didn't even know you could clean them? Does it make a difference to the sound if you havn't cleaned them in ages?

Sure does ! Grime builds up in the grooves and prevents the stylus from contacting the surface of the vinyl properly, which can leave them sounding a bit dull.

yeah trance addict, i have to clean my records at least once every two weeks. any more than that and they start skipping and/or start to crack/sound dull etc etc. keeping your records clean is a very, very important part of the job.

the quality of some of the vinyl these days is criminal.

    Yeah guys don't OVER-DO it!!

I have a record cleaning kit made by Stanton...

I used it too often, and it ended up doing more harm then good.... Made em just as dull as if I had rolled them in dirt.

Just clean them as much as you have to I suppose.

    re: inside to outside/circular motion.

well think about it. if you're going inside to outside, it's different to the way the groove goes, so it's not going be as effective. you have to go outside to inside.

circular is just for t*ts. hahaha
