I don't think you guys give him enough credit. Sure, he mixes so wacky shit these days, but it isn't THAT terrible (compared to other genres and shit). Of course, I've only heard mix mp3s of him, so I could be wrong. (?)

As a natural born cynic to the kind of sound Umek plays, I was definatly suprised by the guy's skills when I saw/Heard him play in Germany a few weeks ago ... There is a lot of hype surrounding the guy, and the music he plays isn't really something that keeps my attention, but and he had some neat tricks I'd never seen before.. the trax he was playing were pretty run of the mill, but he was using them as tools more than anything..
Like I say, not really my kind of thing, but respect none the less....

But yeah, that was a bit off topic, I think Umek is total example of right place right time, I mean when dance music scenes were first happening in the rest of europe, in the former Yugoslavia, they were still living under a pretty much communist regime, then you had the aftermath of that, and it was the middle/end of the nineties, so it all started happening there a lot later on, these slovenian guys were the first people putting on any kind of parties there.. It's only logical that those people will end up being in the equivilent position in Slovenia as Tong and sasha are in the UK...
