A friend of mine is trying to record cassette mixes to his hard drive and will be using Audacity for recording. Does anyone know of a decent free VST plug that can remove tape hiss?

A person belonging to one or more Order is just as likely to carry a flag of the counter-establishment as the flag of the establishment, just as long as it is a flag. --P.D.
just a bog standard deesser should work should it not?
yeah it does thats what i use when converting my old tapes to wav
Dont know about free plugs, but the best noise reduction plugin i have come across is on Cool Edit, which i belive is now called adobe Audition.
I suggest using an extra track of the same sample/track/groove/loop and EQ them both in a way 'till they sound cristal clear.
Sometimes I use noise reduction. Not too much though, it will make the sound too plastic.
