I think trance is the greatist genre, and people know this. Thats why you get the likes of flip + fill trying to suck the life out of it and earn a mint.
But, i dont think that is possible, if you just listen to a pop trance track and then listen to any record you have bought in the last year, you will notice the difference for sure. Its not quality.
I dont think theres f*ck all to worry about, because there will always be underground TRANCE, and there will always commercial, poppy shitty crap.
Back to the original post, yes trance is defo on the up all the time i think.

Trance is the best genre buy far because their so many different forms of it sure its got its commercial cheesy stuff but we dont have to listen to that. On the more underground side think of all great lables we have aswell like Fog Area. 8)
All music genres have their fair bit of commercial cheese factor and if they have forums aswell people like us will be disscussing it to
Commercial music tends to get more of a hammering because like it or not it we hear it more! every time we turn on the radio!

This is exactly my whole point though - they are and it is unavoidable.

I say not worry about it. Just buy/play/listen to what you like and enjoy it for what it is.

Raading back through this, I can see that my point has been vastly misconstrued, so i'm going to just try to explain what I mean one more time, and please read all of this carefully before you judge me, and post a reply.

When I say I think trance is more commercial these days, I mean it gets more exposure, it's more accessible to Joe Public. I do not mean that it is all made to make money or it is cheesy - this is where I am being misunderstood. I do know there is still an undergound scene, i'm not naive.

Some producers however do make cheesy trance solely to make money, more so than ever before, and cheesy euro trance is at a whole time high. These acts, although not what you listen to, are indeed trance, and their success affects your genre.

My statement that all quality trance tracks get into the charts was perhaps a little too generic - but I think that in even an indirect way it is true. A prevelant undergound trance track will probably be ripped off at some point by some cheesy trance act.

These are things that added to me gradually drifting out of buying trance, but it would have happened anyway. It's only my viewpoint, and i'm certainly not saying that nobody should listen to trance, or that trance is rubbish or that I hate trance. Cascade made a post basically asking why the media says trance is on a downturn, and this is what I thought was the reason why.

well this one went around a few circles didnt it!!
    oh well, makes good conversation!!

    anyways
I do have a great example of what voorheez was saying about one day all good trance tracks will be ripped off by cheese.
I do remember a awsome hard trance track called "floor burn".
But i have herd that same "its time to make the floor burn" sample on some shitty bouncy house tune imported from australia!!
But that doesnt mean every track will be abused, just some. So yea both sides of the argument are correct.
But when a quality track is ripped off and a new track is formed from it, it doesnt automatically make the originalcrap or commercial. it just means someones copied a good track to make a shit one.

As for the other point trance is getting better all the time, we all do remember the absolute strong years!! mine was 1999, but i still believe that it was getting better all the time, but not as quick as it did in 1999. Thats just my opinion on the matter.

If you look back on the 20 or more posts on this thread you will find that we all agree on one thing, we all made it perfectly clear that trance was getting better all the time, even if did disagree on other matters!!
Not one of us disagreeed that trance was getting worse!!!!

    in trance we trust!!

In trance we trust. Agreed there bud.

I would put my neck on the line and say trance last year and this year far outclassed trance in 1999.

Voorhez, dont mean too jump down ur throat, i get well worked up over me music. Just dont agree that every quality trance tune will go into charts and even being more commercial.

No way is every trance release gonna become commercialised!! :?

And as for the trance of '99 ... it was a wicked yeah for trance imo, I can think of some proper thumpers from back then that stand up to most tunes around today, but I wont go there, hehe :D

i wouldnt complain about the use of samples like the 'floor burn' one... its an age old sample thats been rinsed many a time, well before the tracks you mentioned...

anyway, on the whole "trance is commercial" thing... yep, it is. get over it. if you only liked it because other people didnt, then gutted. if you liked it cos it was quality music, then its still quality music, just more people are listening to it. and if you dont like ian van dahl, scooter (oh my god... how awful are scooter), dj sammy and the like, then dont buy their records. if you really cant handle other people listening to your music, start buying gabba or something. job done.

also there was one thing said that really stuck out at me... someone said they didnt buy a tune he liked a year ago cos he knew it would get re-released and bigged up sooner or later... that seems really foolish to me... by that rationale i wouldnt have bought alex bartlett "amnesia" (classic) dave joy "first impression"... flutlicht "icarus" (that tune is massive worldwide and its one of the greatest trance tunes of all time) need i go on?
oh and, just to be a twat, does everyone know drugface "cuntmaster" is being released on judge jules's label? hah! hardtrance? commercial? surely not...

This post was not a "Trance is Commercial" post it was a "I'm Bigging Up Trance" post.

Peace love and unity and all that malarky.

    Anyway...Back to the original post?

Yes Trance-Addict, Trance is geting better and better. And this i feel is going to be a big year for it as its becoming more widespread and more people are listening to it/playing it, so more people will produce it and it will keep getting better and better imo.

Log why not just mention my name if you're referring to me?

I'm not a person that will turn his nose up at something simply because others like it - hell if I was i'd be a fcuking goth or something!

In the original post I put 'call me fickle' - do you see that????

I'm mocking my own small personal fault there, because I know i'm being a bit silly. I don't need you to look down off your high horse at me thank you.

I like that Warrior track and have done for ages. I downloaded it the first time I heard it. I play it still regularly. It was my fave track of Ibiza last year. I didn't buy it on vinyl because I wouldn't play it in a club - simply because I just wouldn't play that anymore.
