    interesting.
Alot of people in high dance music places like djmag have talked about the fall of dance music and the increase of new house music, they also have said with the closure of the big organisations like cream and others that trance is dying!!!!
    Has anyone else heard that??
I am talking about trance in general here but it does affect all areas?
But no matter what they say i still believe that theres absolutly no change in the popularity of it!!!

No matter what happens to the popularity of it, its what it sounds like that is the key!!!

So yes i totally agree the tracks are geting better all the time. It does go through its hot sopts and cold spots. Like 1999 for example there was a huge boom in commercial trance. There was huge amount of tunes that came out and mostly turned into classics. From my point of view i thought that there was a bum period in 2001, but i think now in 2003 theres going to be some big things.

if anyone feels the same then say so

The only real problem with trance nowadays is that is is much more commercial than it ever has been before, every quality release is sure to get into the charts which, fickle as it may be, puts me off it a little.

What do you mean every release?!! Ish don think zo. Even if they do, it's normally a long way down the line by which time you've probably stopped playing it anyways

Sorry mate. Thats well off the mark.

Trance is a million time better now than it was in 1999.

Just need to be a bit more choosey imo.

Anyone who is still into trance will tell you the same.

This again imo, will be another massive year for trance, as all the previous years have.

Just cause it aint flavour of the month, truth is, trance is still bein played out by a lot of jocks, and its still filin clubs.

I don't think it's well off the mark.

Take as an example the new Warrior tune - I really like it, but I never bought it a year ago when I first saw it because I knew what would eventually happen. This week it is released with a vocal on top of it, and it is sure to get into the top 20, at the least. This tune will be on the next Clubland, Now compilation etc - it is unavoidable. This wouldn't have happened in the old days.

I'm not saying trance has changed in quality, I know there is still good stuff out there, i'm saying it's more commercial nowadays, and with pop trance like Flip'n'Fill, Lasgo or Ian Van Dahl filling the charts on a weekly basis, I can't see how you can argue otherwise?

I think I was refering more to the sort of trance that we all play, i.e Hard. I wouldn't even call that Ian Van Dahl stuff trance at all, that would be an insult.
I should have been more specific, I was just buzzin coz I just got the new GIGI tune through in the post. I just thought, what is eveyone on about? there's nothing wrong with trance!

    so I posted it.

Warrior is hardly proper good trance mate. An anthem in ways i agree.

But where do flip and fill etc come into it???

    Hardly a trance act mate.

Apart from the names you have mentioned!!!!

How can you say trance has become more commercial. Wat kinda statement is that. Whats more commercial about it?

Everything has a commercial side in ways.

I have a shit load of new trance tracks in me box which are far from commercial mate. Top stuff which once again has the hairs on me neck standin too attention.

Its bit of a broad statment imo mate, too say that about all the trance scene. and i think it is off the mark if u have a look at the scene as a whole.

Look, Paul - Trance sells more than it ever has nowadays. Whether you like it or not, acts like Flip'n'Fill or Dj Sammy make trance. Pop trance, cheesy trance, whatever you wanna call it - it's still a form of trance. This kind of stuff wasn't made until a couple of years ago. The good stuff, like say Plummet - Damaged or the aforementioned Warrior track gets lumped together with this kind of stuff. It gets higher in the charts than it used to - it is more commercial.

By more commercial I mean that it sells more, it gets on the radio more - not that it is intentionally made for mass consumption, or the quality is any different, which is what I think you seem to think I mean. If you truly think otherwise, give me more of your side of the argument, 'cause I just can't see it.

DJ Sammy is s hit hot, dont diss

There are always gonna be tracks that never see the commercial light of day, thats whats really important. Some of our beloved music is way to hard and diverse to find itself being raped by compilation CD's & Top of the pops :P

    Rite bud.

Myself and urself must see GOOD TRANCE in different ways.

Plummet and warrior imo are not quality trance tracks IMO. not sayin they are rubbish, just saying there are a lot of tracks out there just now that are a lot better.

    Examples

    Fate federation - mezmarise
dj corfijneman - venus -tiesto rmx
drax and scott mac - angel - katana rmx
Cern - Baileys - GTR dub
    Midway - inca
Beat seekers - walk of notes
Mr sam vs fred baker - forever waiting - MIKE rmx

all tracks IMO are quality trance tunes without a sniff of cheddar.

Flip and fill etc cannot be allowed to be associated with trance, cause that is what is hurting the tramce scene imo.

And making they kinda comments ie, sayin trance is more commercial now than 99 or whenever is only gonna hurt the trance scene imo.

Not wantin too argue, but i think ur statement was a bit harsh for such a widespread scene.

All I have to say is, I think that the style of trance I listen to is better now than it was, Thats my personal opinion. But there are more styles of trance nowadays and some of them have commercialised, like this new brand of 'pop trance' with the likes of Lasgo and Ian Van Dahl. Let them have this style as it is no loss to us, but what we don't want is our style being 'raped' as carl put it, and that's why we can't have LISA LASHES, to put one name, putting SHOKK tunes on her latest Euphoria CD, get your hands off Lisa.

Trance is a massive gene of music, with a wide and varied output. sorry voorheez but to say all trance is commercial is a little bit far fetched , but i see what you are saying, :D weve all seen examples of the warrior track with trance, but this is true of the music indusrty as a whole, if something sells repeat formula till it sells no more, it started with disco and it wont stop with trance.

The german techno scene has suffered from the same type of statments, after the chart became littered with cheese techno. :D

I think theres a lot of quality coming out of the trance scene at the moment, from the uk especially, there will always be people making music for money ian van dahl, flip and fill etc but they all need the underground to take things forward. for every filp n fill there is a jon the baptist, and for every van dahl theres a jay walker.

there is good trance and there is bad trance and i am with addict on giving it mad props :D :D 8) 8) :D

Yeah for sure Jay, but we don't have to choose.

So we can still not be associated with shite trance and keep Lisa away from our stuff. :D
