In LA he only played 2 hours and opened for Robbie Rivera. So Im sure that is one reason it was mostly minimal. Towards the end he started playing harder stuff then he was done. I was just pissy b.c I didnt get my fix.More like a BIG TEASE.Would have made much more sense to have him close. Any way I didnt mean to turn this into an Adam Beyer thread.

one thing that i think is great is that, sure techno is a smaller field in the us, and drum n bass and progressive is ruling all over, but look at the good part of that.

drum n bass djs are a dime a dozen. ten gajillion of them all over and most can't mix for shit.

if yer one of two techno djs in your region, then you have a niche that isn't overfilled.

    kinda nice really.

i would rather be one of a handful of techno djs than one in a gajillion of any other genre.

    true...

but then again, to the average joe blow (who doesnt know shit about shit when it comes to electronic music) will assume that we all play techno.

I hate it when people call trance, techno.

We need to educate the kids. Not look for the 21+ year old. The kids is what it´s all about.

    Techno needs an image campaign.

Hiphop has the image of being tuff and bling bling and fast cars.

Techno has the image of being... well for scrawny wanna-be intellectuals with glasses who don´t get chicks

 Perfectly said Ben. I have discussed this with Agent Orange many times... America especially is very image driven. Even though Hawtin is great the image he gave off was slightly nerdier, and that does not exactly appreal to the masses... The other large problem is media. Yes Hip hop has the image, but what drives that image? You have Clear Channel which is a huge monopoly. ( I know because I used to work for them, shh) Anyway, they own most of the major radio stations here, and many of the large venues. And since they are so tight with MTV what happen is.. You have some genric shit Jay Z makes, it is plastered all over the radio stations, then played on MTV 6 times a day, over and over. Guess what? People see it right in front of them and they accept it, and that image becomes apart of their culture. If Techno, or even electronic music in general had real media outlets such as radio then you would see a larger community evolve. Instead, word of mouth spreads through kids who have been in he scene for many years and you might get some new blood here and there. That is not the way for a scene to grow & thrive...

You do know though, that a brain ain´t exactly a chick-magnet. A Ferrari is.

If we got such big brains, we oughta think of a way of creating a "cool" image.

its a "cool" image that throws up these kinda problems.... people thinking its "cool" to like certain styles, and then bailing ship when the said style is out of favour, has been rinsed completely out of any viable talent or respect it once contained and is on its last legs ... the absolute and utter LAST thing techno needs is any image attatched to it.... and for arguments sake if techno does have an image attatched at the moment, its certainly not geeks who cant get a girlfriend.... im not a geek (well i dont look like one anyway), id say 95% of the artists i know/admire are not geeks, alot have really beautiful girlfriends etc etc so im not sure where that comes from really... Techno will never ever get sold to the "kids" enough to make it a mass market, there aint gonna be no new MTV generation

Like I stated ebfore image or not, theres no putlet.. you cold come up with a grat idea, but how exactly will people find out about it? there is no mtv or radio for techno in the states, let alone electronic music in general..
