Im just wondering what tunes you lot think will be classics in the future mine are as follow,s:

(2) - One night in hackney. defo :clap:

(3) - Ant - Ain,t no stopping this. :clap:

One Night in Hackney has been and gone I think, it was definatly a tune of the moment but I don't think it'll still be getting big licks a year from now.

Sad thing is I don't think there is anything these days really coming out that I think will be a stick around bona fide classic. I think it's got something to with there being more diversity in the scene these days, people have picked their own little tastes and we don't have the sort of general consensus of a classic track like we used to have.

I1m not sure there will be any classics, in the sense of say, The Bells, or Energy Flash or whatever.
As these were early, pioneering tunes released during the height of a scene.
There will be some good tunes, and there have been some over the last few years, but I doubt any that will retain any historical significance I`m afraid.

i dont think they have to be pioneering though.. just need to resonate with the right amount of people at the right time. I think Vitalic - Poney EP will be considered a 'Classic' in the true sense of the word in the future... as will others.. just not as many

I reckon Miss kittin & the Hackers - First Album - IDG will be a future classic, I already consider it a classic myself

I agree poney is a classic but V had better classics. I really think soulshaker was an amazing piece of work, also love that pornstar remixes, and of course bolz bolz remix. my definition of a classic is:a record of high quality that both affects the course of techno that comes after it and is caned on the dancefloor. moreover, it is generally remembered by a wide range of listeners as such.

my favorite dancefloor record of the past 5 years is secret cinema "revenge of a nerd." it's an amazing piece of work, but it's never going to be classic because its listenership and influence is way too small.

hehe...just kidding...seriously though...i hate to say this, but Bells and Strings are classics in large part because of their popularity and impact...if no one had liked Bells, it would, objectively, still be an amazing track, but it would not be a classic, per se.

trying to anticipate impact is a loser proposition, and making music primarily in order to become popular most often saps productions of quality.

i harp on this a lot here, but i'll say it again...i think if producers just tried to make music rather than create something they've pre-ordained will be hard-techno or electro or funky-acid-schranz-core or whatever, we'd get a lot more quality and a lot less cookie-cutter material. more quality=greater potential for classics to emerge.

I disagree but I think I disagree with some people's view of classic and what it takes to be a 'classic'. To me a classic is a great tune that you will play twenty years down the line and be proud of, and also something thats unique to a point. That to me doesn't necessarily mean the most original concept or a record released at height of the scene, to me its a great tune head and shoulders above any form of music released at the time. By the way if we are talking sales then here is a note(Vitalic Poney EP according to tioneb 20000 in France alone, and been played by alot of djs and also miss kittin and the hacker album sales 50000 worldwide and brought in a whole new scene and the movement influenced the salon style make-overs :lol: !) So it had a cultural impact maybe not through musically but maybe muletly But some of that music in that era I say 00-01 had some great music and brought in a new genre that still exists today. Just because some people were not part of that scene doesn't mean it didn't exist. I think people are looking too hard and making things more complicated then it should be. Sorry to say this but I've heard about the strings, mills, now in a sense about apex or dave the drummer so many times it kind of gets tiresome after a while. A great tune is a great no matter what. I've think its a personal opinion of what that is. I also think artist might make electro tunes or techno tunes not because they want to fit into a category but maybe thats what they love the most. Like a nme bands such as bloc party release a tune similiar to mbv because they like that band and are influenced by it. Cheer up people and just stop thinking about mathematics of it all!
