    Default crystal distortion live

played with this guy at the weekend
absolutely brilliant stuff , really quirky , really improvised live techno at around 170/180 bpm mixed with drum and bass and breaks , very clever use of ableton with a kaos pad , and a really nice guy too.
anyone else into his stuff ? and are there any sets online to download , 'cos i'd love to hear it again.

yeah he is quality - i got his our weapon is noise album back in 2000, I then went to the frenchtek that year and heard his tracks pumping out from every soundsystem - you could say his tracks were like the soundtrack (anthem doesnt seem the right term?!!) to the teknival that year.

I heard he is one of the original Spiral Tribe crew now living in France?

Havent seen him live yet, that is a priority I need to make.

I got to play live with him at a charity gig in Hackney Central.
I must say his newer live PA I much prefer. There`s more of a mix of styles thrown in, than his older stuff, which was just hardtek.

well we chatted for ages and he told me he was basically one of the original sprial tribe residents.
after they had heard his music they went looking for him and he played for them for ages afterwards.
he's living in england now after living in france for a long time and we've promised to get in touch and maybe try something in the studio
but mainly to get the kids together ( he's got 2 )
    yeah nice bloke.
anyone find any mixes , please let me know , ta

Good stuff. If you're look for Spiral Tribe/Crystal Method, snag a copy of bittorrent and head over to http://www.teknomassif.com
One of the kids involved in it has a lot of their stuff in digital format, including video, and was sharing it at some point if I'm not mistaken. Considering that's his favorite stuff, I'd be kinda surprised if it was down.

    Crystal Distortion

Since his first release on Movin Shadow at the age of 17, Crystal Distortion has been changing the sound of techno. Initially influenced by hip-hop, breaks and techno, a fortuitous meeting with the Spiral Tribe Sound System saw him spend the next eight years pioneering improvised live sets with 69db at Teknivals all across Europe while also releasing on the Network 23 label and teaching programming to some of the best dance musicians of the last ten years in their mobile studio. Currently releasing on the French label Expressillon and his own Labrat Audio imprint, his latest highly acclaimed offering “The things l4m not supposed to do” is creating mayhem at clubs and parties worldwide.

Pardon my freudian slip. ;) I meant Crystal Distortion. Either way, for finding obscure mixtapes that have been digitized, that site I mentioned is pretty good.

He kinda seems to fall right in between techno and hardcore. A handful of people I know got a bit more turned onto to hardcore after hearing Crystal Distortion or other Spiral Tribe related stuff. Good stuff but just a bit on the mimimal side for me. I guess I like the faster stuff to be more obnoxious sounding. ;)

Yeah, he's great. Some of the Labrat stuff of his is well worth tracking down. The last album he did, on Expressillon is good.. not into all of it, but "Supa Skat" is a really hard hitting, dark breaks track that truly kicks arse... love it

CD is the dondaddy... You can find great vinyl releases of him knocking about (if yer lucky) but for me its all about the live performance

You gotta see him up there, mashing the genres up hunched over his equipment with that intense amazed look on his face..

imo his records don't come close to hearing him live... the guys a magician. One of the best live sets i ever saw was him at uglyfunk a few years ago..it was truly special... hip hop into drum n bass then slowed down into ruff slow-core techno then up into manic head flip breaks then something else to blow your mind. Amazing,...and every last sound is being modulated or manipulated in some way.. I love it when he plays the slow raw funk style

    ...Hats off

his new album "the things im not supposed to do" is by
far the best stuff ive heard in a long time, had many people
ask about it when ive dropped it...infact everything this man
does is totally wicked ... breaks, techno, drum and bass, hardtek(teknival stylee techno) probably has done some hardcore
but its all about the TEK....his missus is ment to b shit hot
on the old bit 1's and 2's aswell...

Ah only three weeks to go before he's playing at Dogma up in Edinburgh and I'm sure we'll all be falling about the place.
