trying to anticipate impact is a loser proposition, and making music primarily in order to become popular most often saps productions of quality.
i harp on this a lot here, but i'll say it again...i think if producers just tried to make music rather than create something they've pre-ordained will be hard-techno or electro or funky-acid-schranz-core or whatever, we'd get a lot more quality and a lot less cookie-cutter material. more quality=greater potential for classics to emerge.
