Default Sony MDR-V600 Studio monitor headphones?

I didn't even realize but a friend gave me a pair of these..

Would these be suitable for Audio production work?
They sure make it sound like it.
I guess it's better than using these...

What are important specs to look for on studio monitors?

I cant afford much right now, but would like to know for the future.

Those sony headphones look pretty good, but i'd have to hear em to tell...

As for monitors you need to bear in mind their frequency response (the lower the better for dance music).

Read some reviews from real users, this always helps loads. Looking at statistics all day will fry your brain, and the sites that sell em to you never put the bad bits about em in their adverts...

    Yeah very true.
That's usually what i do is check out reviews, i got some time now to see what i can find. They sound pretty decent. It kinda scares me to use headphones for production, but if they're studio monitors then it's meant for that need i'd suppose.
I'm just happy i have a pair of "Monitors" around that are for audio work.
Well, i shoulda known since the person who gave em to me is a DJ, used em out all the time.

    Thx for the advice.

i have the tapco s8s, they have a deeper bass response.
you mind providing me with a bad review, i have only read good ones as to now.

Yeah, I've got a friend who's got the behringer stuff and it seems ok, not amazing but ok.

I have a theory about monitors: Go to the bank, beg, borrow steal and buy something stupidly expensive. You'll have 'em 20 years and even if you can't be arsed to produce any music you'll still have an amazing pair of speakers to listen to.

I bought some Genelec 1032s about five or six years ago and even though I was skint for ages never regreted it.

Had the predecessor to the Tannoy Reveals before that (PBM 6.5s or somethign like that) and had no idea what was going on in the low end.
