I've got some fond memories of spacehopper at the Que Club, quality psy trance night with live PAs from the likes of Eat Static, Hallucinogen, Man With No Name, Green Nuns of the Revolution, and they were all at the top of their game then, and were coming out with some pretty good stuff I reckon (this is all 97-98 sort of time). I remember one in particular, I think it was the blue room released night, when HOG hosted the backroom, that was a glorious night.

We did a few raves with a bunch of psytrancers from manchester last summer though, and I have to say, I think the genre isnt what it used to be. They had all the newest stuff and that, but it just didnt do anything for me. I was trying to get them to bust out some classics, but they werent into it at all, and actually seemed to get a bit pissed off when I mentioned Cygnus X.

 all Tip stuff bar Eat Static.

Some of the stuff that came out on Matsuri around then was pretty good too. Transient also kept the quality control quite high. The programming/detail in some of this music is unreal even if you arent into it you have to admire them for doing away with repetiveness.

i've known lab 4 for ages. years in fact. i'm not into their music but i think they're really cool ppl. and you have to give them props, they do what they do well. actually, i used to promote their music. does anyone remember POD Communications (Atom Heart and all that), well we did the press for them and the owner Olaf got invovled with Lab 4 through Plastic Head distribution. wow, that's ablast from the past.

anyway they're not psy trance in the slightest. so re: psy trance. i don't mind it all. in the right frame of mind, i sort of like it actually. heard a whole night of it recently in Brixton and OMG i felt like i was on acid. i've got all the early tip and flying rhino stuff and it's all pretty unique.

deep, organic. yeah, it's all fine in my book.

not a patch on techno though

dangh mark, you like goa?! bwahahahahahahah (sorry bro)

mang, psy trance has got to be the most annoying music ever with the diddly doos at 150 bpm, anyway i heard lab 4 playing with fu cking yoji in tokyo and it was awful, i was just commenting on a mixmag article that said they had thier own private jet! cheeky bastids!!!

I'm kind of inclined to say what the **** does it matter if Lab4 or anyone else for that matter has or flys in a private jet. If they paid for it it's their money to do what they like with. If the promotor paid for it it's his money to treat his acts with as he sees fit.

Moving on to psy trance I can't see what people have against it. I find it quite relaxing - perfect for the second night of a weekend if you just don't want to stop, or for sunrise at a party. And to be fair I reckon a lot of psy trance artists put a hell of a lot more into tracks than some techno i've heard.

Yes there's good and bad psy trance, but there's good and bad anything.

Lab 4 aint it though. But I reckon their a laugh to see once in a while.

I love the old Lab4 sound & Adam & Les are both top notch guys, I know Adam & his wife Kym quite well & they are in no way *up their arse* I know no-one has used those words but just felt like expressing that just because they used a private jet, whoever paid for it, they are not up themselves in the slightest. ;)

Back when I was still hearing Goa with a lot of 303 craziness, I loved it. I don't know how big anyone can say it is in the States though. I don't think there's any regular psy-trance parties happening around NYC anymore. The only regular event I kind of know about is an outlaw party down in the Pine Barrens of NJ that springs up during the summers.

Like people have said.. who actually know what they are talking about and probably hate cheese just as much as you do you have to dig to find it. Its like say the difference in techno between i dunno Fergie & i dunno say Reeko with his groovy new groundbreaking style man. Actually no.. all the techno is the same you are right what am i talking about.

    Dont look at me.

I'd say what purports to be psy trance these days is a far cry from the really dark TIP & Flying Rhino stuff that did kick ass but I'd love to be wrong so i'd like a few links if possible too.
