The Hi-MDs can record with high quality at the best setting, but on low setting it can record for something like 45 hours! Thats pretty banging if you ask me. Maybe the recording isnt perfect, but I reckon it's still better than my walkman! And it wont be any worse than a low quality mp3 on an ipod. Maybe MD is not good for sending your masters to the pressing plant, but I always thought it was primarily meant as a personal music player, something you could take on the train or whatever.

Yep - Have the same prob. But I agree with Dirty Bass on that. Minidisk walkman with mike/line in, cost me £80 from my mate with is plent less than protable Dat and far better than a cassette walkman. I'll take it all the people who are whinging that they're crap won't be downloading the samples I'm gonna put online next week, that I've recorded with one in the park and a protests etc... :wicked:

I think they sound a bit tinny. I've been recording gig's for about 8 years on them, true they are handy but there is still quite a large error rate on the disks compared to say dat, i've had more minidisks fuk up than dat's.

But if portability is what u want tose 1gb MD's do look a little sexy.

I used to have the problem with a couple of players that would get "bass shock" and that would stop the recording process but i found if i put the player on a jumper or coat that would sort out the problem.

great for quick and easy hooking upto your decks and mixer to record sets, for whacking on loads of tunes to listen to when out and about and great for sampling

It would appear that the ipod has devoured the minidisk.

    MD's rock!
They're great value for money, Sony sound quality is spot on, you can record and do what the f&ck you want with them and I like the fact that I can still have a collection of disks with which to fumble about with whilst I'm driving my car!!! ;)
When you fill up a disk (1GB takes abit of doiing with atrac3) you can then use another, rather than have to start deleting sh&t like you do with MP3 players.
