    1stGeneration Update

Following some discussions with some female DJ friends of ours (and also prompted by a discussion started by Chrissi on this forum) and having heard their problems with being taken seriously by some promoters, we set out to promote a night that would present a whole evening of talented female DJs in our main room, giving them an opportunity to represent their sound. We were also conscious that there were generally less girls in techno clubs and hoped this representation would encourage others and give them the confidence to come in and give it a try.

Having already got Rakit and Gizelle on board, we decided it was important to us to represent some up and coming local talent and felt it was important to give the warm up slot to someone from the local area - as always at 1stGeneration we aim to provide a mix of 'name' DJs with fresh talent, thereby helping our own local scene to grow.

Initially it seemed we would have an abundance of choices but for a variety of reasons none of these came to fruition. Today we finally managed to make arrangements and are pleased to announce that SouthWest local talent Serenity will be joining us on July 5th. We feel her blend of tribal and funky, progressive techno and house will compliment the harder edged styles of the S.U.F girls and serve as an ideal warm-up.

    Hope to see you there.

Biog provided by Serenity's agent follows :

    Biography - Serenity

Serenity has been mixing for just over four years now. At the an early age Serenity real name Sarah has admired and loved all styles of music. After watching DJs such as Carl Cox and Pete Tong, she started to buy records.
Her music style some might say is very unique! Especially in Plymouth, where a more harder sounds is played. Serenity's sound could be described as Dirty, funky and sexy, with a twist of proggressive! She loves rhythms, and tribal percussion and is a sure warm up for any venue!
She first had the opportunity to play out quite early on, taking to the decks in a local bar at nightclub her friend played at in 1999. Her confidence grew quickly, and the buzz for playing out more had started.Sarah had her first individual guest appearance at SouthWest's largest dance venue, The Dance Academy just over two years ago as a warm up set. She had a few guest spots with them and other nights in Plymouth after this and was fast becoming a name people were talking about.
In Jan 2002 Sarah was offered her first monthly residency at the Candy Store in Plymouth to play 2 hour warm up for their Saturday night Destination. She enjoyed this and played along some of the industrys biggest names.
Then 9 months later she was asked to play at Eyecon at Dance Academy again, which later went on to become a weekly Resident. She now warms the crowd every week at Eyecon.
She also hold's a regular guest slot at a night called Organix and a night called Possession both featured in the club called The Street. Just recently she also played warm up for the techno night Re–Wire, a monthly night held in the Dance Academy.
Various other guest spots have come to Serenity around the southwest, and her next step is to get representation and push for plays further a field. Its true to say that Serenity has a HUGE passion for her music and DJing...this is what she wants to do...play the music, therefore putting 100% into style.Sarah knows how to keep a crowd pleased, with her different style of funky grooves. This sexy DJ keeps the men happy and the girls jigging!

It was another fun and messey night with the girls, Rakit and gizelle, delivering some very tough and hard tunes. Thanks also to Serenity who put in a great warm-up set. we were all very impressed.
