well, for live use, ableton will run well on pretty much owt, just go for a big processor, loadsa memory, and plug in an echo indigo soundcard, bobs ur uncle.
I'd say go for the cheapest if ur takin it into a club, it may get drowned in beer, knocked around, or, heaven forbid, even nicked.
I got my packard bell off teir 1's ebay shop, great factory refurbished laptops cheapo (with full 1 year warrenty).

if your buying prebuilt, id avoid dell and any of the pc shops own built ones, packard bell are ok for laptops, so are toshiba.
personally id build my own pc, or if you cant do that, get someone you know to build one for you

the AMD-based HP laptops are fantastic. and actually, the Lance Armstrong one is the best value going right now.
