    Scratch vinyl?

BPM calulator - for purely educational purposes - e.g. learning to gauge BPM?

    ableton :?:

or maybe a little pa system, i know the college i worked at had one, helped people learn to play at higher volumes and get used to club environments, was also used on road shows, commnuity events etc.
Life is "trying things to see if they work"

this is a funky *free* mp3 counter:

    BPM Analyzer

MixMeister BPM Analyzer is this month's Free Stuff. This is a free program you can use to determine the exact BPM (beats per minute) of any song. BPM Analyzer allows you to:

Calculate extremely accurate BPM counts for any song.
Drag and drop music files from Windows Explorer.
Display and sort files by Title, Artist, or BPM.
Update ID3 tags in your music files with exact BPM information.
Easily print BPM reports for your entire music collection.
Export BPM counts for use in other programs.
Free to use and distribute for non-commercial purposes

There's a video of James Zabielia doing his thing on an EFX-500 and a couple of techy CD players that could be worth a look...what he can do on those things is pretty inspiring, and a large step beyond just beatmixing, yet not as involved as ableton (which might be overcomplication for some).
