Default best companion drum box for a 909?

    Hi Everyone,
Asking your opinion. What do you think is the best, low cost campanion drum machine to use with a 909? My guessed would be a tr-727,505, or a 606.

Any other good ones? Or better ones?

    Think live jam performance.

    Thanks!
    Gil

the 606 is nice and the devilfish mod makes them quite good for jamming (i really wish i had one, actually). but realistically, you might get more use out of a good sampler.

    understood. and agreed.

although i can not think of any low cost sampler, that has an internal sequencer as jammable as an x0x box. also i wont use a sampler that doesnt have a floppy drive and i cant think of a usb sampler that is under $150.

so from my point im still looking for a drum box.

If live performance is what you have in mind than its a tie between a Korg ES-1 (or esx) and an Elektron Machinedrum.

They both offer hardcore jammability and a vast range of sounds. The ES-1 is sample based where you can load your own drum sounds (including whatever oldschool drum samples you want) and the machinedrum is a full blown synth based drum machine. Both are good instruments to play on!

Korg ES-1 is you best bet. It uses smart media cards to store and transfer samples and its cheap these days... xox style sample based drum machine, couldn't be any easier.

    727's are hard to find.

How about a boss drum machine, DR660? you can pick em up cheap and they have a useable bank of sounds.

Or even an alesis HR16b again cheap enough.

    check sound on sound.
