Missy made a multi million dollar hit
using a small sample.
Wondering if Atkins and May hit paydirt because of it?
If they didn't then that's a damn shame.
Are we doomed to create sounds now and have them be the hits of
tomorrow? Waaaaaay tomorrow?

It was actually quite a big sample I thought, big enough that it was totally obvious anyway. But yeah, Atkins and the other dude (I dont recall May having anything to do with Cybotron) should have got some dollar from it cause they did get a proper credit for it and everything on the tune. The tune doesent bother me personally, ten times more tasteful than that Soul Central butchering of Strings of Life if you ask me.Originally Posted by SummerOfSam

Ok thanks for correcting me.
Now can someone give any insight as to anything I asked?

i very much doubt it. because that sound was kaned in the early electro days they've probaly found away around itOriginally Posted by SummerOfSam
as far as 'doomed' i think its a good thing. if it makes the sounds of techno and electro more accesiable it can only be good for the nu breed of techno clubber
i just think they should have made a killing![]()

i thought cybotron was the planet where the transformers come from?
no i imagine they'd only a get a straight out fe for the sample, not royalties.Originally Posted by SummerOfSam
besides, if they as purist as they claim, it won;t bother them
I'd be pretty darn butthurt.
That riff makes that song.
Not Missy
or Ciara
Or fatman scoop
Actually fatman scoop is pretty cool in that song.

As far as I'm aware, they were paid for the use of the sample, and gladly gave clearance, but do not get royalties...
I hear what you're saying SOS, and obviously we're speculating here about how much dollah-dolloh-bill-y'all they got, but on the plus side I'm sure they got something for it and their names are out there now for a potentially new audience. At least it's not as bad as, say, the poor, long-forgotten, souls who were ripped by Moby from the Lomax field recordings (royalty free and uncredited), for example. At least it's happened in their lifetime, while they are still recording artists, and now the choice is theirs whether they want to try and capitalise on it and maybe 'piggy-back' the hype from the Missy single.Originally Posted by SummerOfSam
pretty sure juan did get something out of it
but since he has sold a lot of the rights to cybotron over the years and b/c he is mia these days, not exactly sure
That clear track is f**kin savage tho. Mind boggling that it was done in 82. Sounds like it could have been done today. Totally timeless..
What happended to 3070 anyway?
3070 was screwed by vietnam mate.
i really hope they got paid. they deserve it. the originators.
