I don't work in a record store, but wish I could get paid for the time I spend in them. Personally, I like to share good things with others. However, I can't help but feel a little protective of the records I play. Why? Because I can spend 2-3 hours a day, 2-4 days in a week, going through every record store downtown, listening to every possible techno influenced record; picking up both labels I know of, and even labels I don't.
Sometimes, I grab gold. A record that is pure mint (imo) and I buy it and put in the bag to be played. Now, when I play that mint record, "sometimes" other djs start asking "what's that track?," and "what label is it on." Maybe I should think, no big deal "here it is." And most often I do. But I can't help but think, "wait a moment, are you investing 10hrs out of your week listening for your records too, or, what???" Sometimes djs ask me where I shop? I think they think I go to some store that they don't go to and thats why I got records they don't have. Maybe I do, cause there is a total of six record stores downtown that sell techno, and I go to all of 'em.
I guess I feel that I invest alot of "time" into the records I'm playing, and that by scouting my labels, another dj is free riding off my hard work.

Honestly, that it bothers me, bothers me. I really wish I didn't give a fcuk.
