i'd go for a korg electribe esx-1. functionally they're really easy to get to grips with. plus you get to throw in your own samples as its a sampling sequencer. they have a load of combinative functions like fx chains, motion sequences. and tube gain to give the output sound warmth and phatness ye just cant emulate with software processors- not too easily that is. i've been using one for the last 2 years in a hardware only setup. now we're upgradin to ableton and midi controllers but the esx-1 is definately still comin with me. have a look at this link....
