I've heard it can be done but I've never had anything convincing out of an MC 303

you obviously have a computer right? if you have a pc, get AudioRealism's 303 clone. It can sound filthy with a load of ****ing (so just like the original then.)

actually... if you select one of the acid presets and throw it through a distortion pedal you get a similiar sound... now i'm not saying its nice (infact its f**king horrible), but its the same idea..

disclaimer: rhythmtech has never ever ever owned an mc303... i promise. no really. alright then, i was young.

I'm no expert, but...isn't acid a synergy thing? I mean, 303's filters are 3 pole, and (from what I've heard <- could well be completely wrong) not excellent, but they do self-oscillate -> it's sound is only part of the story, seemingly. Sequencer, again, not excellent, sadistic even, but very importantly to the acid sound it leads to a certain style of programming. Only about 4 knobs to tweak live - alright, not much options on enveloping, but just enough to encourage creative tweaking <- again, potentially a very important detail.

Add it all together and you get the synergy which led to the creation of acid - part sound, part convenience, part restriction. Perhaps people overemphasise the sound bit's importance a tad too much, when it's really the tweakery and sequencing which matter most. Maybe acid produced by a 2, 4 or 6 pole filter sounds better, but isn't recognised as such because those synths have too many pots to tweak, too many waveforms, a keyboard, and no sadistic step sequencer.

    Blasphemy, I know...

Waldrof Pulse with sync'd oscillators increase the pitch of one oscilator leave the filter wide open with 0 resonance makes a wicked acid sound - sounds nothing like a 303. Sounds like something BT would have used on an album rather than the liberators on a piece of vinyl mind you...but it's a good noise!

Must find the powersupply for the Pulse ... mmm .... still haven't managed to recreate that sound with a soft synth.

yeah for acid the mc-303 is useless. although mc-303's do have their uses, we use ours as a sequencer/trigger for our live set.

Ok, so its not that great, but after fiddling with it a bit, iv come up with some useable bits!!!

I got the audiorealism bassline, but the standard 303 gets borin after a while, Albino 2 can creats some dirt with long periods of effort!! belive it or not.

You can get good sounds out of anything.

If you can't, then you're not trying hard enough.

Haha, really? But if you are trying to emulate something which already exists, then obviously there will be good and bad emulations right. No doubt the MC303 has its moments, but I am sure much better sounds can be made of the same ilk elsewhere

You can with the MC303, alright they may not be the best but play with running midi from your keyboard into an arpegiator in Cubase/Logic etc then back out into the 303 then back into your desk or whatever, cant rememebr then name of the arpegiator/plugin built into cubase (SX2) but its fully programmable and if you find the right sample on the box from the outset you can have a lot of fun...
