You'd be surprised mate - we all still talk fondly of that and Pillbox :)
The fact you say that though shows how much it's all changed since I've been there!

The DJ Rush night was I think the night I've liked least atmosphere wise out of all the ones we've done. You're quite right, it was very busy but there was an odd atmosphere, not like Dogma at all, more just a big name playing in a club. We were expecting the crowd to change a bit due to Rush not having played for many years and attracting different people to our regulars, but not to the extent that it did. Dogma's normally much more friendly, with much smiling :)
See that's the crowd I remember from the early days, when you had people like Mike Humphries, Chris Liberator, or even when it was just the residents!

I think a lot of my mates who I went with to the DJ Rush night had been getting a little fed up with the Edinburgh techno scene at that point because it was going through a big change - as of course it had to, but you know a lot of people's attitude to change. That night was the final nail in the coffin if you like, although things have apparently improved.

Music wise, yup, we're just booking who we want to play rather than trying to fit genres .. earlier this year our nights included Henrik B followed by Regis live followed by Uglyfunk (Mark Hawkins live and Jerome djing) followed by The Youngsters so we're still pretty diverse.
The Youngsters! A brilliant move - I'd have loved to have seen them. Nothing I can say for the rest except total respect to you for doing it!

All the nights went really well and we had a lot of folk saying that they weren't expecting to enjoy whoever as they didn't like that style of music but actually had a great night, which is all good ..
Education is just as important as entertainment right enough... (there's a wanky purist saying for ye )

In October we are on the 17th when we're hosting the launch night for Glenn Wilson's new album "Nightshift" on Punish Recs. Glenn's doing a 2 hour live set followed by a Final Scratch dj set, which should be pretty tasty, hopefully you're about that weekend ..
Haven't decided yet mate, but I might just be there. I haven't seen Pyz in a long time and I know he's eats sleeps and shits Punish, so it'd be a good chance to get up, see the old faces and enjoy the new wave of the Edinburgh techno scene...

Nice one mate. Keep up the good work!

Aaargh. I'll be heading back from Majorca that night. I'd have travelled through to Edinburgh for that as well.

I haven't seen Pyz in a long time
Ironically Pyz is playing Dogma in two weeks, under his new moniker "Hustler".

Having seen some of Pyz's porn collection, that's probably quite suitable

London! But the crowds really are not as friendly as 'up north' even if the size of the scene is much, much bigger and so much easier to see underground artists week in, week out.

A lot of us yank's are trying to do something around here. It's going to take some time and dedication, but I hope it all pays off.

As for hard techno, or techno for that matter...I think most people in America have forgotten what its all about. It never used to be that way. Now in America to most people hard techno means Hawtin and Carl Cox. There's still some true believers out there!

hmmmm. maybe because it looks like a sack of sh!t without the sack ....

i live local myself, but am forced to admit, it would look better if it looked like somewhere else that erm .... looks better. Wales for instance, lovely rolling hills, plenty of goats and sheep and not a rotunda in sight.
