This is great, I know people will hate on it for sure.
But of course do you realize what this does for techno as a whole!
I'm quite excited about this and thats awesome for Richie.

Wicked that he is doing it.
But what will it do for techno as a whole?
Well, I doubt it is gonna be techno as most think of it ie banging dancefloor stuff.
It`ll be more orchestrated I expect.
And techno isn`t a music for the masses. It`s too abstract and has little reference points for the average joe (ie the human voice singing stuff they can relate to).

    Certainly better than tiesto anyway.

i thought he's just co-producing the music for one of the performance art/dance number for the opening ceremonies and not playing "live" as teisto did.

Probably best that he doesn't. All those hair products are pretty flammable!

Well, I think hawtin is more likely to stick to his guns on this one, so it may be interesting.

Honestly, it won't do a damn thing for techno but it's better than Tiesto. The Olympics is nothing but a damn hack these days anyway. Still, congrats to Rich Hawtin

no, it's not a forgone conclusion techno media blitz. but for those that pay attention to the artist name when they come across it, who don't already know it, and who are curious about it enough so they go find out more -- it could do exactly what SummerOfSam said.

imo, it will just add the the hype machine that is the hair product called richie hawtin. it means nothing more but more marketing and less delivery of the goods. consumers get ripped off in the end again. i miss my old richie circa '94. i demand less ipods, beta testings and sponsorships and more quality music/effort.

i tend to agree. i really hope he does something impressive, but lately i've found him to be more talk than action (which is a huge let down).

this will benefit Hawtin more than anyone else obviously, certainly financially. It's not recognition of techno at all, its just a case of an artist being too big to ignore. It'l be funny seeing Richie opening the olympics certainly. but i wouldnt suddenly expect to see techno sales start soaring

practically everyone at the olympics will not have a single clue who the guy with the dodgy hairdo is playing music for them
