    Default soundcard distorts at low volume

    my mates soundcard on his PC distorts at very low volumes..tried adjustign all the volume settings in windows but still distorts when the windows voluem controller is less than halfway....any ideas anyone?

    has he tried using some different drivers, what soundcard is it ?

    Has he got a Pentium 4? (Check out the denormalisation problem).

    Just for reference, I rarely have my volume above quarter.
