theres a groove. quite a strong repetative one infact. listen to the way how the cut-ups have been sequenced.

the problem with this track is because its cut up so much it doesnt roll along like your avarage techno groove. and tracks that dont flow are difficault to listen to.

great track in princible but more than a couple of minutes of it and i'll want to rip my own ears off to feed wild pigs

best example of a groove i can give is Before i was so rudely interupted, tight, big, bassy groove all the way through the track, you dont even take notice of the kick after a while because the groove is just so phat and thunders along, really grips you in and i defy anyone to not dance to that record. This is all about the kick. The groove is there in the sense that the bassline is there yeah, but it doesnt GROOOVVVEEE. Im not talking technical aspect's here, im talking the whole set of elements working together and creating that little feeling that just clicks inside of you when a groove seriously hits home and this just doesnt have it

i think were all going to have to agree to disagree here, people's opinion's of groove and funk obviously differ greatly

Im glad you said that, it is a fair bit old but the reason I posted it was to give this kind of techno a bit of attention as it is a different approach to what a techno track is. That in itself deserves a little more attention as imo, a fair bit of thoughs gone into it.

Totally disagree with what your saying about funk, ever listen to funk btw, or jazz? Its not based upon obvious cycles but element interactions and changes, its not always 4/4 too. Few lessons there I think

Ok this tune is not totally obvious and the one beat could be more emphasised however its for me, the tracks like this that have the most funk (click link and no fast forwarding, let it roll first ;) )....

    Exhibit A

When done right (PS what is it?)

before i was so rudely is a class track and def has the funk. to me funk and groove come from the rhythmical elements in the track and it doesn't need a bass to groove. maybe i missundertsnad what you're meaning, but i get impression a groovey track for you is predominately based on the bass riffs.

you underestimate me danny, some of my favourite artists are funk, soul and jazz artists, and my musical heritage is steeped in all three. Im a guitarist for 13 years now too, i certainly have a great grasp of funk and groove, and ive even played the odd Jazz number too. I've played in band's, more so in school, where ive had to keep inline with a very skilled jazz drummer who went off on many unimprovised solo's and we had to keep up and adapt, change the tempo, change the swing, timing etc etc. As i said we'l agree to disagree, for me that remix has no funk or groove, its rigid and all about teh kick and edits.

i see what your saying about the way the track is done, but its not new, its just emphasising the edits to a greater distinction. It's just less loops, but replaced with more edits and a higher production quality, it really does cut through very nice production wise. I think the problem is having the set definition of what a techno track is. Beyer and co shot themselves in teh foot ultimately with their sound and are now trying to get away from it, but i really prefer his minimal bits to this remix, and this is an older remix anyway isnt it? he's done some great stuff since, the madeye record's and i still love that Walking Contradiction

il have to check the link in a while not got speakers here

just checked the track actually went downstairs, yeah thats a funky tune, especially around the 4 min mark, that's a nice groovy funky track, and its nothing like that remix haha, id play that example out no bother great track

also, no a groove doesnt have to be a bass riff, strange assumption based on 1 example that i could think of a groove busting tune

see, there you go, goats are systematically bred to die the instant they hear funkless music

case closed, pity a goat had to suffer just to get to the end of this
