What's your daw/host and why?

I use Fruity Studio mainly but am planning to get deeper into Ableton Live or Cubase perhaps. Possibly using stuff bounced down from FL or rewired..

Logic 7 Pro,
because i use a mac and it runs so smoothly in os-x
i personally prefer it to cubase, the plug-ins that come with it are outstanding , also it uses AU plugins which are much more stable than VSt's and i think sound better.


the only down side with logic 7 is you do have to buy it,you cant really copy it and it comes with a hefty price tag.

Does everything I need it to...I still have yet to run into any major roadblocks with it, besides the problem with the Absynth patch I had 2 weeks ago, which is now sorted.

Oh and I guess I should mention I'm on a PC. I built it myself last March... AMD 3200+ 1GB etc etc

Live 4, though probably upgrading to 5 with the new machine.

Using Live mostly because its inhouse Sampler / Effects are pretty tight and low on the CPU usage. And of course because it can be used to perform Live. I do however find the MIDI editing in it is absolute ARSE compared to every other sequencer I've used.

Any improvements to that in 5?

I really don't see why people complain about the midi implementation in Live.
It does everything I need it to do.

If you need to edit midi at the event level you have issues anyway :cheese:

Live 5's midi implementation is chronic. Navigation is terrible and the tools laughable.

remember when people had MIDI gear???? your sequencer is the heart of a hardware studio, not a VSTi one. Cubase still kicks arse when it comes to managing external gear, logic used to have better timing on the outboard, but since apple bought them out they really dont seem to give a shit, expecially on the sounddiver front.


Cubase is a good program for keeping everything in check midiwise, its just that IMHO the sound engine lacks that little VA Va VOOM...

Ps.. i know about the offset issue in cubase, its curable... i love all these programs in their own little way, just a tool for a job.

And BTW when it comes to recoridng audio... pro tools with the 001 or the 002 sounds blooming fabulous!

Cubase is the bit I know best though. (After OctaMED, but that's getting old now!)

OctaMed is coool ! Haven't used that since I was little, might install it in a tic

Protools is the final production tool of choice. But I've just installed FL Studio on the PC so I can do some fake scratching :)
