its bull. techno can be as melodic as the producer wnts it to be. it sounds like a couple of people that dont really understand ttechno trying to figure it out.
it would be the same with me and trance. i'm not into it, i dont understand it and it all sounds melodic to me BUT i'm pretty damn sure that i'm wrong.
there is melody and dischordentness in all forms of music. just depends on the mood of the producer and the feeling he sets out to achieve on the day.
Generally speaking I'd say the main different between the two was that trance was more about harmonies and melodies, and techno was more focussed upon rhythmn.
In techno rhythmn and groove can be achieved with percussion, leads, hits, fx etc a million different things.
Making it musically superior and infinitely more diverse and interesting ;)
