if your still learning reason is fine, but once you've got it sussed i recommend getting cubase or logic as there a lot more powerful, and in depth.

hardware wise get a decent set of monitors before anything then a good soundcard

Aw yeah and when you've got all the hardware you want, sell it and start using software again... :paranoid:

story DM, one sentence too sum up a huge part of production....

take out everything you dont need!!!!!

in practise that would be dont fill a tune with loads of conflicting loops, and eq-wise, drop out the lowend from most things that shouldnt have any lows and vice versa for any other sound, ....

try MicroTonic too...a nice easy to use drum synth!

    best of luck ;)

    buy ableton.
If your lucky you`ll get a free live lite with your soundcard, then you can upgrade to full ableton for under half price (what I did).
    Solitary by nature.
    Isolation is the gift.
Does anyone have courage to stand apart any more?

i know ableton is great... everyone knows this but if i was to start again in todays environment what would i do??

well i think one of the keys to good production is knowing just how everything fits together in the virtual world as it does in the real 'old school' world.
and reason to me, is the simplist and best way to understand this inside your computer.

i'd get the hell rid of reactor for now annd just concentrate on reason. fiddle with ableton too for sure but try to get to grips with the fundamental principles and wirings of equipment.

    hope this helps mate

If I had the money and the time, at the moment, I'd just jack everything in and go Reaktor all the way.

Of course, I realise this is just because I'm really strange.
