Default Question regarding Audio only computer. What to install.

I've finally got my a** in gear and bought a KVM switch box so that I can run an old pc for internet etc and my main computer will now be purely for audio.

The thing is, at the moment my Audio PC has had windows XP reinstalled and that's it. My question is regarding what I should/shouldn't install now. Is it a good idea to install XP service pack 2 and windows updates. If I do that I suppose I'll have to install Norton and Zone alarm etc which mean's I'll have to go on the internet.

What would you install? Would you bother with the likes of winamp and nero and crap like this or would not bother with going on the web?

some future software may not work on your pc if you don't have service pack 2 installed. although im not sure if any do now.

you can download and install a network addition of sp1 and sp2, which means you can download and burn them to disc using your internet pc, then install them on your music pc.

some good xp tweaks here http://www.tweakxp.com/ and here

i've always used the tips on tweakhound.

don't install anything you're not using for music, so no firewalls, anti virus, nero etc, just your music software

as was already said, keep it as clean as possible,. also when you are done with all the tweeks, you can backup your system to an image, and if something f** up, you can restore back your system in a couple of minutes with all the tweeks you done before you backup.

yeah i just recently got a kvm switch so i can go between pcs for internet and music, its awesome

but for my audio pc, it never touched the internet and i only have software for music on there thats it

and a couple of external hard drives too, so that way the harddrive on my music pc is clean
