as to the original post, i have dont some research here in the states and what i have found is.

    1. you have priority if you ahve played a city before another with the same name. who plays it first gets to use thier name there.

    2. you can get a service mark, meaning you and only you can use the name in the US. this cost around $300 US for three or five years.

    3. in the industry using a name that sounds like the name you use is not allowed. an example synnister, sinnister. phonetically the same = no no.

after that, it is all about writing them with a nice statement and putting the pressure, quote the law, then ask for a cease and desist....if it works great, if not then not much you can do, but most people will do it if it looks like you have beat them to the punch and know way more than they do.

basic US law...just act like you know more and bluff your way to get what you want. (or something along those lines.)

    hope that helps
so i guess that rules out me calling my self jeff mills for a laugh then?

i might f myspace off tbh. i'm just sick of spending one hour a week approving friends and replying to people who have obviously stumbled across your name on a mates page and are asking how many e's you take during a set. call me stuck up, but i've just got more important things to be doing these days...

You're right Mark. From what most users I know say to me, it's that they waste far too much time on it. I know it has its advantages and stuff but I honestly think that's overshadowed by the time it wastes. Depends on the user I guess. Personally I'm not planning on getting a Myspace anytime soon, I waste enough time on BOA as it is :)

see mark...it DOES suck! haha. no seriously...it was only a matter of time before it became useless...if everyone's got 9,000 "friends" then how can there be any meaningful interaction other than "here's what i'm up to" updates...which blogs and websites do much better anyways ;)
The law is not the private property of lawyers, nor is justice the exclusive province of judges and juries. In the final analysis, true justice is not a matter of courts and law books, but of a commitment in each of us to liberty and mutual respect. - Jimmy Carter

It`s about the same as any other form of internet networking, and promotion , forums etc
It is what you let it to be, don`t take it too seriously.
Personally I`ve found it quite handy.
It takes up hardly any of my time at all.
    Solitary by nature.
    Isolation is the gift.
Does anyone have courage to stand apart any more?

Lester is even funnier in real life. His camera phone images are way better than the ones on myspace.

And isnt what you mean mark, that it hasnt brought you any gigs and you dont want people getting in touch with you...

    WTF..

Man, you dissed me on this, for no other reason than you could. I been respectful and inquisitive, promoted your site BOA and taken part and you cant do me the ****ing favour of adding me as a friend? Pedro Delgardo did, he didnt repsond like a friend, but he did respond and ive been at his throat for years..

    ****s sake.

either kick me off or play fair man.
