Audio problems. Audio is glitching

My audio has started to glitch.
Little pops and lciks and tiny little freeze stutters.

I`ve defragged my drives.
Updated the drivers on my soundcard.

Can`t firgure out why this is happening.

The glitching happens whenever I move anything on screen.

Any ideas folks?

these kind of thangs usually startr happening when an uninvited rascal loads into your memory aka virus, worm, trojan or other. so google for STINGER by mcaffe, update your antivirus, go into your safe mode and scan.

sounds like your graphics card could be on its way out. this then starts eating up cpu, which in turn screws with your DAW.

if not then theres a possibility that your ram has fudged up.. again causing massive strain on cpu.

in both cases get a lend of replacements and try them out. sounds like you're gonna have some fun playing the trial & error game :(

Well, I`ve got a new anti virus, and I`ve done a complete scan

Maybe try updating my graph card drivers?

Im betting that its either graphics card drivers, RAM

or maybe even just plain old heat? its is rather warm.

in addition to all of that i'd really check the heat-related issues as dodgy said. do check if your cpu fan and the block below it have become dusty. if so - deffo clean them.. maybe check in your bios how high the temp rises, possibly after your comp has run for a while..

If you are on XP, make sure that CPU priority is set for background tasks.

sounds liek a software prob to me, if it was heat comp would restart. check the temp in BIOS, though. try reversing one week back in time with that winXP utility in safe mode.

Right, I`ve run a diagnostic.
Ram appears fine.
CPU temp is always fine, I`ve got plenty of fans.
No problems with graphics card on diagnostic.

I`ve removed the virus checker I installed, but the thing removed some exe`s when it was active.

Maybe a repair of XP would help?

Make sure your CPU and RAM are set to prioritise background activity, as this is where ASIO lies.

If you have set your priorities wrong running a plugin will take priority over the audio, and your audio will crackle, pop & freeze as audio slips down the importance ladder.

reinstall windows on top of these,, so you get to keep your data and all. if it doesnt work then format c:/ ;)

Right, I`ve reinstalled some drivers and stuf, and no joy.
I have noticed that the screen/mouse, or whatever I am moving at the time of the glitch, also freezes.

also - make sure that disk indexing is turned off... that can really **** things up...

Right, problem fixed. I did a repair install of xp, and the problem has gone.
Apparently the virus checker I used was far too aggressive and ate up some obviously important files.
The virus software was AntiVir Personal Edition.

i use AVG, its free and never had a virus
