Dillema

Hi,

I am new here and i cannot find the say hello forum so if you know it point me to it :).

Don't kill me for this but i am a hobby producer that spends 1 hour a week creating something. I have lost my addiction to creating music and i want it back. (but well thats something i gotta do myself i guess)

I have the following gear:
Yamaha 01V
Yamaha RS7000
Roland TB303
Roland TR909
Roland TR808
Nord Modular
Rat Distortion
Currently building Modular from Oakley sounds 7 Modules @ once.
Currently building 4 Sid Synth from Ucapps.de

I got all my gear second handed and the old stuff where broke or really cheap.

Now the dillema i have is that i am thinking of doing the TR set away and buy myself a Machinedrum and a TR909 clone (the one Trevor Page has designed he is reissuing his boards) and with the money left a Second handed Sherman FB

Now what should i do it or only sell the 808 and save an extra 400 Euro (which is way too much for me) to buy a Mdrum. I believe the Digatal sound of the Mdrum can help me good in my production. I need that hard Kick from it. I hate sampling drums.

Anyway the 808 has to go. It has no midi and it's more a hip hop machine in my opinion.

Please help me decide. Other suggetions are welcome too!.

Man U have a dream setup I'm preatty sure most people here will agree.

I guess it's all down 2 what u feel u need any Elektron stuff is

:love: ... but the 808 has got a character that no other machine has. A Drumstation can do a fairly good 909, but the real thing sounds twice as nice, and cut's thru a mix a hell of a lot better...

So I figure I would definatly stick 2 my 909.. In my view the 808 is an absolute must 4 more experimental/ Chilled stuff...

I don't think I helped much but again U didn't really made all that clear why u really wanted 2 get rid of the gear, (except 4 buying more... )... what do u find missing or what exactly r u after!

I am missing Midi on my 808. And i only have 24 inputs on my mixer.
For my live act i wish to acomplish i need simplicity. I am short of hands if i use 909 and 808 both.

Hi Twin-x,

Maybe you might try syncing your 808 to the 909. You could pick up a Korg KMS30 sync box for cheap (approx $100-200 on ebay) and use this to sync your 808. Not exactly midi, but works a charm. 909 and 808 will then run super tight together (and can have 909/RS7000/Computer as master). With the KMS30 you get 1 midi In and 2 midi out plus, 1 din in and 2 din out. So, you can sync up probably all your gear with the one Korg box (or something similar). You might know all this, cause you got all that gear, but I thought I'd offer the idea anyway. Also, you can sync the 808 ( or 303) to the 909 by sticking the midi-din plug in only 1/2 way. Again, its not midi, but it is an 808. Goodluck.

I have the KMS-30. (for 20$ on ebay LOL) Sync is not the same as midi as you said. If i make 1 song half of the patterns of the 808 are used. I find a midi kit too expensive for the 808.

humm Maybe a little bit I find u can benefit from dithering quite a lot as the last bit of the decay of a particularly detailed sound or even a noise source gets a little harsh at the end. but I also think I can live with it as I tend to get the "master2 into my pc and then play with it middly with Antares tube/ C4/ BBe maximizer/ RCL/ Ultramax.. so by the end it sounds like shi* as always anyways lol :P

I really want 2 get my hands on the 96 new 1... this should happen with in 2-3 months... :)

i thought the 01v looked great on paper & was going to move to it as i like working on several tracks at once, but as u say baz, i found it a tad harsh..

Shame 'bout that, 'cause feature wise and useability (for a digital desk) is fantastic, maybe it just needs different convertors, but that takes the price way up into the land where other things are probably cheeper. Will have to hear if they've improved it for the new stuff.

Yamaha CD players tend to sound a bit harsh too to my ears...

U can't live without a comp/ eq on each channel.. a 4 band parametric is a must, and I lik'em 2 b graphic aswell...

And I won't b limited 2 a CPu 4 that!! :(

Still mate first I like 2 have a definned idea of what I want on a track... sometimes I'm crazy enougth to do it all in MIDI

So I need Hardware 2 connect my machines 2 ... maybe when they do somethin similar 2 D8b and a firewire ....
