    What for?

For production I imagine a full-on Mac is going to be more powerful, but it will cost more.

Some people seem to get on fine with iMacs.

TBH I'm not 100% on what the differences are.

I reckon they're probably less expandable.

MAC PRO is the tower version, vastly more expensive 1699 retial minimum. Expandale card wise and ram wise and drives

iMAC 679 minimum no PCI slots... thats the difference. no internal exapnsion except the ram and drive.

I have an iMAC now, 2ghz Core 2Duo... its fast. i use it for production and recording and have no problems with it.

a lot of interfaces are USB or Firewire now anyway, no need for PCI slots.

It really depends if you want to use internal cards or not, with things like TV input cards etc...

all depends on how much money you got, if you can afford a powermac then buy 1, if not get an imac

Depending on how many plug-ins and audio tracks your gonna record, you wil either need a mac tower (G5 or mac pro) or you will be perfectly fine with a second hand G5 imac - which i use (but isnt second hand) iv put as many plug-ins and synths into logic as i humanly can to test it, and i managed a shit load of stuff, remember - just cos its out and stupidly fast it is - doesnt mean you have to have it! G4's are still powerful machines, the 1.25 ones anyway, my mate uses one and he has no problems with audio and mid work.

If i had to choose though, and i had the money - id definatly get one of the new mac pro's.
