I'm just curious, what do you guys do with your pcs/macs........do you just leave it on all day everyday or shut it down the end of the day?

i turn my mac off for the night to give it a rest maybe once every few months. Usually have it converting movies and tv programs through the night.

wow, i turn mine off every single night when ive finished working on it. What a waste of electricity leaving it on overnight if your not using it, and surely helps to give it a rest if you've been caining the audio all day long

Yeah well.. say goodbye to your hard drives then.

The amount of physical strain you put on a machine to turn it on and spin everything up decreases your hardware lifetime by a good deal. Hard drives specifically.

yeah ive never, and i mean never, had a single harddrive or major issue with my machine when turning it off everynight. Common sense tells me components that can heat up and have constant electricity running through them need rest. So each to their own i guess, for peace of mind i know i wouldnt feel safe leaving it on constantly

there's an argument for and against leaving you're computer on all the time, but i personally turn mine off most nights, or if im going out.

I turn mine off, my housemate leaves his on.

A powersurge killed his PSU one day and crunched up everything.

Powersaving options can cut your PC's power usage drastically when it's idle, though I only leave mine on when I'm downloading stuff. I wanna get one of those funky motherboards that underclock your CPU when there's no strain on it or overheated and beef it up when it needs the power.

hmm... have turned off all powersaving options, and prioritise background activity (which ASIO comes under)

    Why turn powersaving off?

Pig and Dan - Banksy's ripping my stereo up at the moment. How trippy are those birds! Ok, off topic I know :P
