Why old skool hard trance ?

What's it's appeal ?

For me it's the melodys...i like a good tune. & then there's the bouncy beats especially the punchy ones & also the simplicty of some of the tracks, that really appeals to me...makes you wanna go make a tune myself !

Glad to see u put simplicity in there SP, i have heard a lot of folk dismiss old skool tunes for being basic, but i feel it has went too far the other way with hard dance music these days. And because of that lost its appeal.

I also agree with melody's! U just gotta love them, and u dont get much of them these days, its all kicks and bass. U dont really get many dark tunes from the 90's hard trance scene, it was all uplifting, bouncy and energetic.... tuneful.

My opinion is that music should be fun, not depressing, which i feel some (if not most) is today. Well maybe depressing is the wrong word, u can dance to it, but i rarely get the OHHHHH YESSSSSSS!!! factor with any tunes. You know the feeling, like with every tune M-Zone drops in his classic sets

im into the Hradtrance as mutch now as when i got into it (about 1998 ish) which i think was a top time to get involved in music.

i had a friend say this about it once,this is his opinion not my own:

back in the day (haha old chestnut) tunes where made for the vibe,the melody a fukn buzz...now they seem to prurpose made,a bit samey,they mix to perfect if you like where as back then it was just yes a fukn tttuunneeee feeling.

summint along them lines haha was a while ago,if you get what hes saying.
makes no diffrence to me personally,but i do think people are affraid to experiment for some reason rather than just go mad n bang out a spacey of its face tune

i feel old im 22 an it only feels like yesterday i was listening at home in my bedroom to the old classics,i didnt think they were classed as old school

thats what i was meaning, its all a bit serious now i think. Lets bring the fun back people. Are folk scared to produce that kinda stuff now? Whats wrong with taking a few steps back to go forward?

Yeah for me you just cant beat the Melodies of the Old Skool Hard Trance. The best Era for me is between 98 and 2003. Not into the older stuff as it is too fast.

Think of the Melodies in these tunes - Prototype 'Sound Piercing'
Marino Stephano 'Invaders' Composure 'Universal Action'

I could go on and on...Labels such as Fog, Harem and Drizzly etc leading the way. A prime example of this sound is the amazing mix in which Mr EG produced called ‘Brainstorm.’

Now dont get me wrong i still love some of todays stuff but it just cant beat the Atmosphere of the older sound. Also agree with Ally, he is spot on in what he says about todays stuff being all about the Kick and Bass. Im Sick off hearing that fat off-beat bassline with a Scot Project Kick. Whereas the older stuff was all about the sick melody what sends a shiver down your spine!

When I mentioned my fav era was all the way up to 2003... (Maybe too new for some of you men I know) …this is because tunes such as - Hennes & Cold ‘Second Trip,’ S.H.O.K.K ‘Folie a Deux,’ S.H.O.K.K ‘Isnt It All a Little Strange,’ Warmduscher ‘10 Kleine Bassdrums,’ Scot Project ‘Future Is Now,’ etc etc cannot be forgotten. This was all around the 2000/2001/2002 mark. Again the High Point of Hard Trance for me and just as good as the sounds of the mighty Brainstorm.

Nowadays for me the scene needs much more innovation and a change of direction from producers instead of the same old fat kick and in your face off-beat bassline. There is simply not enough producers changing things. The only producers what are innovating for me are Scot Project, Kamui and Bas & Ram. Im really loving Scot Projects techier sound, its fresh and full marks to him. Kamui for me are the best around at the moment - again loving their Tech/Trance crossover stuff. ‘Victory’ was a true anthem!
Now more on the Melodic scale are Bas & Ram, and although sometimes they go for the Fat kick and off-beat bassline (Speed Of Light) their stuff is absolutely top class and I can also say fresh for that matter. They are definitely developing their own sound. ‘Speed Of Light’ was out of this world, the melody In that is one of the best, if not the best I have heard in recent times! So full marks to them aswell.
For me those producers are the only ones to be really pushing the scene forward.

Finally as for me being an up and coming DJ it is hard is work when you are only buying a small amount of new stuff . How are you suppose to push your sound and get gigs when you are mostly only buying older material/classics because you dislike alot of todays 'same old' sound??

Tunes made for love not money.

The sort that used to give you a hard on when you hear them, the sort you spend hours, days, weeks trying to find.

Ive just started buying again and ive bought about 50 or so the last couple of months.

The old stuff is the best stuff.

They dont make em like they used too i feel its all gone pete tong.

I cant ****ing stand that hardstyle shit. its just old tunes that have been subjected to a out of order banging bass. m zone is a ****er for it.

i like a bit of hardstyle but im very selective with it,m-zone's i like beacuse he seems to have the right type of hardstyle i like.zany so on
