Default this may seem a bit odd but...

for one of my assignments i need to write an essay about music in context, focussing on a particular genre. Obviously i have chosen techno....

now....i have found plenty of information on the origins of techno in general but i was wandering if anyone could point me to information regarding the social and political mood at the time techno was conceived and what the music stood for (if anything)

for example punk music in the uk was a musical reaction to the social unrest at the time. was this true of techno or was it simply a natural progression to chicago (sp) house.

any info/links would be massively appreciated!

    thanks :cheese:

PS sorry dan/sam if this the wrong section

I accidently got into a story written by Laurent Garnier about his experience in Detroit with techno in the early 90's.
Especially about the suburbs in Detroit, and the whole situation.

there's a good book called escasty and the dance culture, i cant rember the authors name ... i'll have to look it out,

theres a bit in it describing football hooglians raving beside each other, mashed out of their faces when the week before they were knocking the shit out of each other,

lots of stuff like that in it

Oh,and like it or not, techno was music for drugs. E,acid, speed and then when the lovedup feeling had worn off, coke, crack and K took over.
