    Default MCs.... yay or nay?

    Massive NAY from me.

Dance music is created through 2 very long and thoughtful processes - production and DJing. The process from the producer's first ideas for the track to the DJ actually playing it out to a crowd takes so long and involves so much thought, planning, consideration, the creation of the track, the selection of a tune by the DJ in the shop, the selection within a set, the mixing... for a third person to then impose themselves on top of the whole process largely undoes all the good work leading up to it. The MCing that I have experienced involves absolutely no skill, no planning, no thought. Used sparingly - as ive heard they do in Holland, only speaking every now and again to let everyone know who the DJ is, maybe get everyone moving on a big tune once in a while. But when are they TRULY necessary?

    Thoughts?

I went to Uprising in Sheffield a few months ago to see Uberdruck, and for me it totally ruined the evening. Why do you think they are such a long-standing tradition, and do you think it will hinder the spread of the hardstyle genre into the minds of more mainstream clubbers? I.e we were talking in another thread about preconceptions about a genre - i think MCing does even more damage to peoples conceptions of whether a DJ's music is 'intelligent' or not...

Yeah Pots I think it really will turn a lot of people off hardstyle if MC'ing becomes a given at all events - mainly because many people will see our music as a sister genre to hardcore. I, personally, am instantly put off when I see that an event has an MC, because it can really ruin the night for me.

I prefer 'hosting' to MCs.....if there's much of a difference......

Hate it when Dj comes on with no announcement.......and I like a cheeky bit of gettin the crowd going....can really make a difference........
defo against the 'sound engineer tunr my mike up louder can't drown out the tunes enuff with my ramblin yet' though.........

Havin said that....haven't caught many hosts/MCs recently....Jus shocker, NRG and Ribbz......

So over all opinion...... = 'it depends'

    Default Ribbzy

Ribbz is the daddy @ mc'ing. he get's it just right, not too much woffling, and hypes the crowed up realy well.. i think its his tone of voice.

+ he's always dancing around and smileing, whcih rubs off on the crowed and makes the atmospher that little bit better.

    he's an alright dj too.

,, not into most other Mc's but Ikon is quite good and Ezy sometimes, but ribbzy #1

    1 ribbs
    2 si the sigh
    3 easy

i used to quite like mc's back in about 1995-6. when they were kind of new to me,but now only these 3 (literally) do it for me. i think mc's nowadays feel they have to wail on the whole time to make a name for themselves! its kind of like djs in a away, theres so many about!

some mcs are ok - si and ribbzy are wicked. those of you who have said that you've been to clubs/events where the Mcing has ruined the night for you, i tell you this - if you ever went to the country club, when si was Mcing, it wouldnt have ruined your night ;)

a large percentage of MC's do my fu*king head in! theres no need to scream your bollocks off over a set. just host & learn the main thing...when to shut up. the MC's that do it for me have got to be:

    1) Ribbz (the UK's finest host)
    2) Squidgy B (hardcore techno's most under-rated IMO)
