yeah the fact that I havent seen mark playing an old skool hard trance set (93-99) since he played b2b with mick at extreme @ the void in 2001 says a lot. I appreicate music progresses and the need to look forward keeps the scene healthy but Im guessing that if mark played an old skool tarnce set at a big night youd see a pretty busy room. The fact is I stopped buying & playing hard trance & hardstyle 2.5 years ago and Ive checked latest stuff comign out now and again and it sounds gash. The hardstlye is too screachy and seems to mass produced cr.ap so apart from techno im not really buying any new stuff. Im going off on one here but just be interesting to here what mark has to say about it

Fully agree with you mate as would alot of other people aswell. Good points made there. Im Hard Trance through and through but the stuff at the minute is no where near as good in my honest opinion. I have not been buying no-where near as much as i use to. My fav sound goes back to 2000-2004. The old Kramers & co/Scot Projects/S.H.O.K.K's/Flutlitchs/Hennes & Cold etc etc. Tunes like Jam X 'Das Licht' and Marc La Cruz 'Future Prison, i could go on forever. I also like the 98 and 99 sound (Brainstorm)

Now i am not saying that all Hard Trance at the min is shit, there is still some quality from the likes of Kamui, Scot Project etc but it doesnt compare to what i have mentioned above.

So yeah it would be interesting to hear Mark's views. (And hopefully a mix)

Just one or two old skool tunes dropped subtly into his sets every now and again would blow the roof.

i do agree, the hard trance of yesterday outdoes alot of today's music in originality. i was listening back to some of my records the other day and was actually feeling very, very sad that the music has lost that particular feeling that hard trance used to have (especially that of the time unlimited/music research era). i mean even the hard trance coming out now is either bad overdose/scot project rip offs or, well just rips off. i do desperately want that feeling back in music but without a full record box of stuff that sounds like that in my sets, i just can't put it in my sets. i really don't want to be an 'old school' dj, cause it simply wouldn't interest me. sure it might be nice for a few months but after a while you'd be playing the same old records. it's the searching for new music that really interests me in my life, getting that track through the post and then trying to fit it into your box at the time. see what i mean?

also, everyone's version of old school is so very different. i've been playing hard trance since 1994, so that's like 13 years of different types, different feelings and different sounds. wouldn't that be one hell of a confused dancefloor????? hehe lol

you know, i do want to do a mix of some old school stuff for here but knowing me (it's the same with all my home recorded mixes) it would take me 2 months of planning and about 3 days of solid mixing getting the mix right. i really am a perfectionist when it comes to shit like that. ok leave it with me, perhaps it will inspire me in the studio too. i was thinking recently how i need to get back into writing a form of new hard trance, inspired from the old days, this seems a good way to do it.

Top man for getting back to us.

I think we all understand your reasons and dont blame you in regard to the above quote I dont think any of us would want youto stop doing what you do just to become and oldskool dj, but would it be that big a deal to play a full out oldkool set a couple of times a year.

Would keep us old farts happy and would break things up for you a lil bit more and tbh you would have a great time re-living a few emotions that have brought you along your journey or musical enlightenment

I love the old sound and new stuff but often kick myself that I was 2 young to enjoy a good dance to you playing a set of tunes I love from around late 96-99.
