Quality! will grab this later, cheers :;
downloading now mate cheers
this set is awful...
really hated it when mzone and mark eg started playing this watered down stuff...
so, not interested in the Kevin & Perry soundtrack then?
which is that? is it on this mix? I flicked through it from start to finish and my ears switched off really.. i never liked this type of gatcrasher trance... i liked the power trance and acid trance... old time unlimited... hard style i can listen to... modern harder stuff i can handle... and even the slower spaceflower with melodies i liked...
but this type of billy bunter trance goes nowhere for me. in fact i get angry with it... haha... but then i like loftgroover's stuff of old and music maker... you prob don't like that stuff
:) you're spot on mate, Loftgroover sounds to me like a factory in full swing and The Music Maker, I really don't get. The 1st trance and techno i heard was the final countdown tapes, borrowed them from a young lad who was there, i copied the lot and played them thru. the m zone and sharkey tapes were the ones i wore out, i spose that's why i like that stuff, 1st encounter and all that.
bought the originals recently, came on here to get a playlist, ended up downloading loads more. been listening to it in the van all week (loud) , m zone and mark eg. so you'll have to forgive my ignorance, it's a lack of education........give me time.......ed
ahh... so you don't have the older sets of mark eg and m zone? you wil love them... the wemf'96 mzone set. also his pleasurevibe set and tomorrows world 4th birthday set. get downloading and see what you think.
i didnt mind this set to be honest (well I skipped through it for ages before realising it was a live PA)
was going to say that a lot of their records sounded the same hahaha

I just flicked thru this and deleted, some of it was ok but not worthy for my ipod :;
Hi Mate, your quite astute, loved the 4th b'day set, leave my options open on the wemf and not found the pleasurevibe set. also listened to some Mark EG dreamscape sets........good stuff. However, the best was the Sharkey Void 97 set, such a shame it was spoilt by the loud and non-stop MC (as was mzone tomorrows world 5). Do we have the technology to remove the MC? (or at least reduce his volume) I tried the karoake filter in nero but it didn't work.
................ed
Options open? does that mean you did not find it or you are not sure if you like it?
I did not download the Sharkey set. I never liked his stuff that I heard before. From what I heard he plays quasi hard house / trance core which isn't my thing although I'm basing this on 3 sets I heard, hence why I never download any others.
You don't like MCs? You will find that almost all the tapes are covered in MCs.. IN fact, that MZone set is probably the least covered set in terms of an MC being on there.
WEMF96 nor Pleasurevibe have MCs on there..Mark EG's Dreamscape 21 does not have one either.
Try the MZONE hardcore heaven weekender set. It has plenty of melody tunes on there. And Ribbz is an awesome MC. Just introduces and says a few things. Hypes the crowd.
WEMF is a long set, just breezed thru it quick, need to listen properly. Plz don't get me wrong, do like the mc's, they add atmosphere, more a feeling of being there. on the 2 sets i mentioned tho', the mc's dominate the music and are too intrusive. the lad on mzone's energy 98 has got it about right. thanks for the input............. i struggle with the different genres and sub genres, the differences seem to be quite subtle, then again i struggle with rock genres and i've been listening to it since i was a kid. on that subject, i love the Chocci set from final countdown, which genre is he in?..........cheers...ed
It's interesting you say that MC Motivator on Energy '98 (MZONE?) got it right because my friends were annoyed with this MC when I put it on in the car. I found him to be OK, but I'm used to hearing MCs now since my happy hardcore days.
I might download this Sharkey set just to see what he actually played on this occassion.
As for chocci, I only heard one of his sets and that was a hard trance set from what I remember with not much going on (like progressive techno) For me, the best era of trance was around this time - the tunes were truly inventive and plenty of melodies. This is what I think of when someone says 'hard trance'. I also love the old acid trance days from time unlimited (1994) I'll re-upload these for you.
There are lots of sub genres, yes. And some are probably subtle to those who do not hear it all the time.
Binary Finary to me has always been watered down trance. Go back to the WEMF set and listen to all the tunes (especially after half way) - melodies and beats, then put binary finary on. You will understand the 'watered down' statement.
Sharkey listens to hard house :-D So his music has influences from the lightweight scene. He has ruined some techno nights with his soft music played at events. I have listened to plenty of convos in a record shop in Bradford about him killing the night. I know about this also because mark eg and mzone did the same b2b at Decadance @ Skelter. After that set, I wanted to sleep. The sound system was terrible too. Barely any volume. Then in the technodrome it was the opposite. A sweaty sauna of stink.
I agree with asylum about the hardcore heaven weekender set being one of the best ever. I'm quite certain that if this set had been played after your typical binary finary sets at the water trance events, then all the kids there would have been jumping for joy at some real trance and what it means to put your heart into a track and not your bank account details.
I thought the main problem with the binary finary set was because it's a live PA all the tunes sound very similar to each other and we have to bear in mind that it wasn't the original mix of 1998 that made the tune so popular, it aws the matt darey (for me) and paul van dyk (for everyone else) versions, the original is quite watered down it itself and you can hear how prominent the production quality is throughout the set as most tunes have the same instruments etc.
