as someone who wants to start making music themselves i dont want to emulate a sound, althoughthis is difficult as a lot has been done i wouldnt set out to make my track sound like a german release.
i think that people are trying to hard to make trance sound like the germans althouhg they really know ther stuff i think as far as uk trance is concerned it needs to make its own identity, otherwise wont we allways be 2 steps behind?
what the uk hard trance scene needs is something differnt perhaps mor e towards the german stadard of quality sound but at the same time unique to ourselves.
Sequence is coming. It's going throughout your imagination. It takes you where you've been before. A higher state of mind. Yeah, you remember the early times. Now were trying to take you again. In the deepest seas of your consciousness.....Time never stops
agreed.
What do ya count as UK hard trance? Jon Doe's tunes?
Anyone got some examples...

Absolute with Alex Kidd & Paul Webster - 18th April
Absolute with Stoneface & Terminal & Bryan Kearney - 16th May
Anjunabeats 100 tour - Above and Beyond, Jaytech & Myself - 24th May
Gatecrasher Edinburgh - 25th May
This year the UK'eans have pissed all over Germans for Hard Trance...
it kinda depends on your tastes ? are they not 2 different types of sounds
german trance (for me) is a lot more of a regimental rhythm than the uk stuff

marching music innit
I think we are indeed tbh...
The german scene expecially isnt what is once was, who is really pioneering the sound? No one as of yet at the mo... everyone is sorta quiet with a few disappointing releases.

I say big up the UK Boys...
Jon the B...
Jay Walker...
Marcos...
Steve Knight...
Fast Floor...
For they have been more pioneering in the last year than the germans..
I think we uk Hard Trance is just a different sound to the german one... and by natural preference I prefer the german... but still love the UK stuff.
I can't help it... but the twisted, evil, dark and messed up sounds that the germans have so wonderful constructed over the years are just so what I want to hear... where the UK sound has never been able to do what the germans do. The recent UK Hard Trance stuff is great... but just too late comming. If it came out around 2001/2 it would of had better reception. The longer it gets for UK producers to release tracks the more german, italian and dutch tracks get released for me to compare them too.
There's some great idea's and people in the UK doing things at the moment... and those people know who they are... ;)
But this doesn't mean I'm writing off the UK producers, just think they have a massive task ahead if it comes to me seeing them in the same light as the germans.
I look forward to the day where I play a mostly UK produced set... sadly only about 5% of the tunes I own are uk produced.

I still think the UK producers need to find their feet in the trance production stakes. There seemed to be a lot of trying to copy the German formulas with the early UK hard trance IMO, and I think to come through the UK needs to start doing things differently, be original & exciting & start breaking the rules & formulation. I agree with Mark about the wishy washy comment. Too many long riffs & stops & starts sometimes in the UK stuff, where as the German stuff always tended to have a darker & twisted element whilst having some uplifting qualitys.
agree with UK producers copying similar sounds to germans, but they need to do this so they have a chance of surviving. Take a winning formula that the germans used and mould it in to your own.Originally Posted by Si the Sigh

yeah cos before that there was quite an energy sound to the music....
UK Did have a distinct UK sound to it but now I think Jay Walkers Projects and Jon the Baptists Projects are getting nye on with the germans for hard melodic trance.... ;) ;)
But anyone could copy a formula & knock out a tune mate! Surely its better to originate than pirate? See the way I see most of this hardstyle, is same old same old. Copying is not good!Originally Posted by Hakka

oh I'm not condoneing it... just saying that if you want to be sucsessful you have to look at what makes a tune sucessful. I think that it would be better for UK market to see how music has evolved and become better in the german market.
I don't mean copy and copy everything... I was supposed to suggest it would be good to see what qualities make a german production good and use the general rule to present the music you make... then keep bending and pushing that limit until you've made your own style.
Ok... maybe it's not original enough to create a track off the sucess of a proven production system... but at the end of the day if the end result is clearly not a rip off or copy but a good, class production who really cares if it's roots were planted by inspiration off european sucsess?

IMO the only reason the Germans are better at Hard Trance is because of the mass of the production.
Quality wise I think the UK is the best in the world but we just can't compete with the numbers.
But times are changing .
I would love to know the satistics for the UK and the Germans of number of releases to the number of quality releases. We'd win!!!
