Joy Division / New Order

two of my fave bands, me Dad exposed me to New Order from a very young age, we're talkin like four years old, their early releases are among the first tracks i can remember liking, 'Blue Monday' for example is a record i remember being in complete awe of as a young lad, and still remains one of my fave tracks of all time to this day, New Order's first few albums remain special to me and a lot of singles down the years also, such as 'True Faith' and 'Regret'...

being a New Order fan, i then took it upon myself to learn about Joy Division and to be honest i prefer their music, both the albums they released are classics...

the only pre 'Unknown Pleasures' stuff i've heard are the tracks on the 'Substance' album, one or two of the more punk sounding tracks on there...

i honestly think closer is the greatest rock album of all time. unknown pleasures has some great songs, but closer is so cohesive...

also movement, first new order album, is absolutely brilliant.

they went downhill after they stopped working with martin hannett, though low life and technique are brilliant too.

i was never overkeen on movement, i tried to like it.

Factus 8 though, with 'everythings gone green and mesh etc is still one of my favourite albums to this day. Oh, and 'Power, corruption and lies' has its moments as well

give movement another listen. it's sort of the bridge between joy division and new order having come into their own on PCL

movement is kind of like a midpoint between closer and power, corruption and lies, both literally and figuratively. it's produced by martin hannett, so it has a similar sound to joy division, but it's definately much more dancey and i'd say it's more "creepy/atmospheric" than "disturbed" like joy division stuff tends to be

Really, really cannot stand New Order, "Respect" is a good track but everything else leaves me totally cold, "Blue Monday" is probably my most hate electronic track of all time, seriously worries me when dj's have to resort to bringing that one out in the middle of a set. "Closer" is stunning, in particular "isolation"

and check this out for making a mockery of a past legend, New Order are actually planning to play some gigs as Joy Division either this year or in the new year with the guy who played Ian Curtis in the film as errr Ian Curtis. ****ing joke that, like bloody pantomine or something. Shame, legacies such as that of Joy Division and Ian Curtis should be treated with alot, lot more respect, especially from the people who were involved first time around

totaly agree with you about 'Closer', and New Order playin as Joy Division with this thesbian, i'm sure he does a good job in the film but FFS...

listened to 'Movement' on the way to work this mornin, some nice tracks on there...

on a few of the tracks, Sumner sings very similar to Curtis which doesn't sound right, would love to hear them tracks with him singin in his own style which is apparent on later New Order albums...
