if vortex is wanting no trance in a techno room, then why has he done it for the last 10+ years?

i don't understand...? mzone,.fergus, mark eg and so forth were always included in the techno room... in fact, back then i did not want trance and i was so annoyed it was in the techno rooms....i was a speedcore purist.

now that i like it, i am told they won't put the stuff with techno....

pfft you can't win either way.... and they basically got rid of hardcore techno also....

and those events on youtube in europe are so awesome....

when we ever gonna get get an oldskool trance Mark EG set then because im gutted i missed out and only was able to buy the tapes years ago coz i were too young (mind you at that rave i saw people that looked 13)
as a post said in this thread, it says hardcore in the main arena but since when do ya play hardcore in there?
oh well, nothing can be done about it now, but if i see Mark EG classics again on a flyer, ill have to think twice unless he makes it clear on here it will be oldskool german stuff hehe

mzone still plays the stuff if you can handle the yorkshire mcs and rough crowd.. to be fair, a few djs up here still play the stuff, but it's the atmosphere if you can handle it.

exactly shapehopper ya hit the nail on the head. it needs to be said precisely what style i will be playing. saying 'technodrome classics' is ridiculous. i played from like 93-2000 in the technodrome - a massive span of music. shame no-one actually asked me about this set before putting me on the flyer. i would never have agreed to it without an agreement on the style AND a mention about it on the flyer... i don't want the ravers to be let down, anyone who knows me knows that.....

hmm.. i'm sure you can feel my pain here mate... ppl will feel let down and you know what - i'll get the blame.. shit sound, crap time but so much love put into the set and for what???

well at least there was a few ppl in that crowd who seemed to like the last few moments when the bass came on. but damn, it should have been so much better.

look i just wanna say, this WONT happen again. trust me guys, i wont let you down again... if it says classics, it will say EXACTLY the style. if it doesnt', dont go.

Nothing you can do about it really. The promoters should be clear about it - end of. Clarkee played nu style dutch gabber in the techno room and played old skool bergian techno stuff in the old skool room. Which were different to what was advertised. I remember mick supposed to have played a classic set at vibealite couple of years ago and played hardstyle. When I asked him at the end he said no one told him to play classics! I know you were told but it should have said techno/trance with the years involved (ie 93-97 hard trance classics). Would have been clearer for you and us anyway.

Good to see you & chrissi again tho mate.

BTW - what was that last tune you played? Was a beast!

Not really moaning am I? I went about 6 skelters from 98-99 and had all the technodrome packs from the start at one point. A technodrome classics set would have been tunes from 93-99. Mark played mostly techno in the technodrome in that time period apart from about 6 trance sets so I wasnt going to be surprised if he played techno. I was just hoping (not moaning) he would play trance. Marks said his reasons which are fine.

I was really ****ed off he didnt play toytown though ;)

Ok so it wasn't perfect but nothing ever is, the bars were too slow, the smoking area was too small, there was no trance, the security was too "in yer face", the techno room sound wasn't great........and probably 100's of other things to moan about. But for god's sake..........£30 for 9 hours of entertainment, stomping, headbanging, cramp inducing tunes from DJ's at the top of their game and friendly people, who all seem to greet you as a long lost mate.
The organisation of such an event must be a nightmare but all in all it went off well.
All I can say is if some of you thought this was poor, then you must have been spoilt in the past. You can please some.......etc............yawn

sorry, but they have plenty of experience in making these events.... they make plenty of money out of it.... and £30 is a lot of money and there is a standard you come to expect as a minimum ... things like bars and queues should never be an issue because it is folly that over the many years in business they have not figured out how to facilitate the process

as for the sound system not working right.... bloody hell... it is a music event.... it's like going to watch the formula 1 and the cars don't work..... they had all day to sort out the music system...

all the excuses are invalid and lame. these organisations are supposed to be the top dog and professional... so just keeping quiet for the sake of it or 'the scene' is not correct

the fact is it's about making as much money as possible and cutting as many costs as possible... that's the issue...!

and as long as people are willing to digest the cheap quality, the longer it will go on....

Firstly £30 is not a lot of money for entertainment, in the last couple of years I have been to rock concerts, west end theatre, the opera, football and cricket matches. They have all cost more (some, a lot more) than £30 and apart from the cricket they only last 2 - 3 hours, also they all have long queues at the bar.
Secondly a rave is not a concert, it's a dance. How can you worry about sound quality when you have blokes yelling, girls screaming, horns, whistles and an MC doing their bit over the top of it all. From my position in the techno room, I couldn't tell there was a channel down and it was loud enough. If you want sound quality, stop mucking about with your 1210's and buy yourself a Linn LP12, then you will really hear what's on your records.
I do agree with your last sentences, however it was my first rave, so i have nothing to compare it with........i just enjoyed the whole night.

U obviously attend these types of events for a different reason than me then.... cause it isnt just for a "dance" for me....... I attend purely for the music, so i would be expecting an excellant sound system. And with the billing it had, it should have been a superior system to most imo, so having a channel missing and a severe lack of bass is a disgrace!

p.s. £30 is a lot of money for me! then included the expense of a 600mile round trip as well if i was able to attend.

the very fact that a lot of stimulant abusers are whistling so annoyingly loud and you get under-age girls yelling uncontrollably and so forth only adds to the fact that you need a very good sound system to cover that racket. Also, like asylum said, there are plenty attending purely for the musical experience - hearing your favourite and unknown tracks played so loud on a quality sound system which is at a different level to the one at home.

£30 is a lot of money because those events you listed are national teams or worldwide celebrities/singers known by the vast majority around the globe. the prices are still disgracefully high, but you cannot compare a helter skelter event to a sport or other concert. £30 is a rip off. just like the football is a rip off and other things. it's the worst argument to simply measure oneself by comparing themselves to another.

sound quality is very important... do you not have any crap sound recordings of sets which mean you cant stand hearing them? plenty i had in the car that sounded terrible, so i threw them away. it affected my enjoyment of the music.

for those in the main room, the sound quality is normally amazing or if there is some DnB room, the quality is clear even though the music is commercialised shite. they always cut corners with techno music. all the big promoters are terrible in this respect. as long as the majority are happy, they will continue to put out a mediocre event.

it would be interesting to see how many continued going if they did not take stimulants which, let's say, affected their judgement.

omg i've just spat coffee all over the studio desk hahahahaha best thing i've read all week

anyway, for me sound is of upmost importance. sure alot of ppl go to dance and just generally get ****ed but what they dont realise is the quality of the sound and the clarity with which that sound affects their head, contributes MASSIVELY to how much of a good night they have.

i've always said it. doesn't matter where you're a music head or not. alot of factors go together to making a successful night and one of the more important is the sound..

Seems I'm in a minority of one. Well I had a great time without odd substances, just coke (the fizzy type) and lager, went home after 9 hours with my head buzzing. Can't wait till the next one.
