    Default poly rhythms

just been getting into this whole thing lately and it excites me.

ive been playing around with different time sigs over each other. and wondered what sort of patterns people were using.

a 3/4 over 4/4 is great, it really created a nagging, incessant rhythm that drags the tune forward.

not really tried anything else yet [7/8, 5/4, 6/8]

just wondered if there were paterns that anyone uses time and time again to good effect.

    any tips, help,links much appreciated.:cheese:

Man, I love mixing time signatures, and loop lengths.
It`s nice to build a riff that loops in 4x4, but to different lengths.
say, 5 beats and repeat instead of 4.
    Or 5 bars etc.

as for what time sigs I use.
    any and every.
    they all have different effects.
these days I just try everything I can to get something interesting going.
Mixing signatures is a nice way to introduce a semi random element into your tracks.

I do it with percussion, hats, synths all sorts.
    Solitary by nature.
    Isolation is the gift.
Does anyone have courage to stand apart any more?

yeh man, gonna have to have a real good session playing around with this sort of thing.

it works wonders on a hat rhythm, realy makes it sound as if so much more is happening than actually is(if that makes any sense).

well chuffed with the 3 over 4 time for synth lines though. nagging all the way, just how i like it.

not done the math yet, but do the different sigs line up eventually, in the techno4/4 frame work. 16/32/64/96?

they will line up to the 4, but not always within the 16/32 structure depends on the sig
not that it matters, you just get more interesting fun when laying the track out in your arrangement

i make a lot of acid with 303 steps of 12, 6, or even like 7 or 10 steps. I understand completely what you mean by that 'nagging' sound and love it. esp, if you don't have alot o other synths in the mix is really allows the brain to fixate on something.

5 steps is good for 303 patterns and of course the old classic 3 step with two notes on slide

yup. I have found that with really odd step numbers (10, 11, etc) it takes some crafty programming to make it sound good.

One of the coolest 303 patterns i ever made was a 6 step pattern, but with accent off, it sounded like a basic 4 step pattern. But when the accent was brought up, it suddenly turned into a 6 stepper. Sounded pretty cool. I really like using 6 step sequences a lot. 10 steps are pretty tricky. EgeBamYasi's Sponge is based around a 10 step 303 pattern.
