What the hell is industrial techno anyway?
A lot fo people seem to think the crappy distorted clangy stuff is industrial, but it falls so far away from the industrial ethic it`s unreal.

Explain more by what you mean?

    The Birmingham Sound?
    The Hymen/Ant-Zen sound?

Why not just answer his question instead of being ****in' anal about it?
Sorry man, but will you just jump down off your high horse. Everyone knows you know about industrial music, get over yourself.

You were right in your questions to Detfella, i.e. Birmingham/Ant Zen - they are good overall inidicators of "industrial techno". You know this, we all know this... that's industrial techno; no question required.

In some ways I'm sorry to have made a personal attack at you like this, you are one of the best contributors to BOA, but also one of the worst too in my opinion.

Yeah, the Emergence forum is definitely the place to check out industrial stuff and tips. One label I really like is Keller Musik, some of the earlier releases were a more heavy jacking style, but have gradually become a bit more crunchy and industrial... I like their buzz anyway - I think there might be a bit of a link between them and Zhark, who are on a darker and perhaps less dancefloor style.

Tomash Gee does some metallic clangy sounding techno. Try Andreas Kreamer too. Dunno if this is what you mean, but some good stuff anyway!

I honestly didn`t know what he means, the word industrial is so ambiguous, a lot of people call the hardcore - crossbones sound industrial. 3rd from etc.

Then the black polar neckers call the birmingham sound industrial.

then you have the idm crowd calling stuff like motor, hekate, morgenstern etc (ant-zen and their stuff) industrial.

all of which are totally different types of music.

Some people simply use the word industrial to describe anything with metal clanking and a bit of distortion.

Knowing Detfella is a man into a diverse amount of music erring on the gnarly side of things, I thought I`d clarify what he was looking for before pointing him in a direction.

but hey ho, lecture duly noted.

Yeah I see your point there; I think there's a good chance he shared a similar outlook of industrial techno too though. Anyway..

And my point about the ambiguity of the word industrial becomes apparent.

It`s almost as ambigious as the word Techno.

    not quite though.

easy Sunil mate, a little OTT there, the term industrial is very ambigious indeed, i would never call the birmingham sound industrial techno, infact ive never heard anyone call it industrial, seriously, i've always just regarded it as uk techno, brum techno at worst

i would of placed alot more of the artists that Fuknut has listed as industrial techno, but granted they are on the more hardcore/core side of things

check out David F's Broken Rules alias, sick hardcore

That`s the point though, the birmingham sound probably in terms of direct influence and ethic, is the closest thing to the original Industrial Music of the late 70`s/early 80`s, that incidently partly originated in birmingham.

So to me, I would call this industrial techno.

buuuuuut, not everyone realises or thinks the same way, as industrial is a word that has been adopted by many now.

    hence my original reply.

exactly, whilst knowing the origins of the brum sound and the influences behind it, throbbing gristle, mick harris etc etc, i still wouldnt of called it Industrial techno, to me its just a classic era of uk techno, hence the ambiguity

the wonderful, confusing, annoying world of techno rumbles on

Ok, I see what you were getting at a bit more now, maybe I was hasty in some of what I said in my reply. Still though, surely it's not too hard for us to simplify what the few broad categories of industrial techno are, especially as it's not hardcore or straighter hard techno we're talking about. So: Birmingham, Ant-Zen type, and the Terence Fixmer/Adam X styled stuff... A lot of these people still crossover into making very similar stuff too, but overall there's probably three main 'camps' style wise I guess...
