    Default Harddance Awards

Was doin a little surfing before and ended up at some website for the Harddance awards 2003 or whatever.

Now can someone correct me here if I'm wrong but wasnt the term "Harddance" started on the hardcore scene to explain abit more properly what is in the main arena as it hardly ever used to be just hardcore i.e. hcore, hhouse, htrance, breakbeat etc?

So why does it seem that the hardhouse scene has gobbled the term up an now uses it to just define what is played at their events - hardhouse & crap hardtranceyhouse.
And hardcore (in all of its forms) & the real hardtrance scene gets left out in the cold?

Except for the first category for these awards where I saw Jon Doe & Mark E G nominated their wasnt a single thing nominated I could vote for that wasnt hardhouse crap. When it got to best compilation CD I had to turn it off :dontevengothere:

Obviously this is just another way for the commercial side of the industry to kiss its own arse!

respect and i have to agree... i'm very pleased to at least have been nominated amoungst a group of dj's that aren't really doing the same thing as us lot (vote for me guys cause you can bet i'll be at the bottom at the mo cause this is for a different scene) BUT what is it with all the other categories? obviously i had a flick through and my god, there was NOTHING to vote for.

yes i think that hard dance is now becoming a new word for hard house. and once things start getting recognised, they eventually die. i can't help feeling that we need to move on as quickly as possible.

your both very right, Hard Dance is the very new Tidy image they are trying to project, in other words to remarket them same old crap under a new flag... so more and more shiny pennies can be made.

I know there are some tracks out there which are very awkward to call between hard house or trance/comercial trance as they have aspects of each in there, but it's still the ingriedents from two genres which have been raped by labels like Tidy... the underground trance scene has superseeded the hard dance today 3 years ago through the german/swiss sound, and until more recently Hard Style of Italy & Holland.

Bah. All I say is that unless you are directly playing what you feel is Hard Dance then not to worry about this too much. At the end of the day, people who take the time to know about todays hard trance / hardstyle SHOULD be able to spot the obvious differences.
Follow your music with heart and you can never go wrong...

I'm slightly worried about this type of may I call it propergander (spelling?) ;)
By this I mean that people who are just starting to get into the harddance sound might read this an think all the people, places CDs etc that get awarded are where its at an go that way. It doesnt become clear what the big picture is until youve dug your way in deep enough and been around long enough.

Was just looking at the lineups for Slammin Vinyl NYE & the room with Mark EG an Kev Energy & all the Hardcore regulars is entitled "hardcore arena" and the room with all the Hardhouse gimps in is the "harddance arena".

Funny that coz they were one of the first events I saw using the term harddance to classify their hardcore arena with basically the same DJs in it around 2001 time.
