Most of you people on this board are so close minded it´s scary.. I mean what do you really want for techno? Best thing would be that no one exept for you would hear it at all am I right? You don´t have to go insane just because a techno dj is playing a set on radio 1, or a recent trend says that techno should be a bit houseyer than a year ago. Grow up and accept that there is good music in all genres and just because someone gets played on national radio or earns a little green don´t make them a sellout.

i agree to an extent... some people are definitely a little too anti-commercial on this board for my liking too, but i do understand why they are like that and fair play if they want to have that attitude. god, even i'm guilty of it sometimes...

but at the end of the day, commercialism does kill a certain amount of quality in music. it takes away that innocence that enables fresh ideas and sounds. it's hard to find underground music these days, so naturally people are protective of it.

but that doesn't stop me wanting to play techno to as many people as i can. yet it would to others...

who's right? no-one knows... it's all a matter of opinion...

    i agree and then i don't.

i agree with your statement that alot of people should grow up and open up a little. the definition of sellout in techno these days is a load of shit and very unfair. people need to make money and national airplay is great way to get you recognition for your label or tracks and bookings for the skills and hard work you put in the studio.

That said, some people are just trying to tap something cause something else was falling apart.. that's something that doesn't belong in any scene. there's a difference between self promotion to pay the bills and live a little and exploitation of others. the latter is what i take to be offensive.

the last thing i'll say is i enjoy a lot of differnet kinds of music. i've talked to a lot of people who enjoy these different kinds of music over the years and i have to say that people who listen to underground techno are the biggest isolationists of any genre. Even i was pulled into that attitude, elitism and segregation is bitter pill. i have learned to absolve myself of it.
piss and the vultures will pay... coming soon

    Default elitism

    The isolationist thing isn't good....

The best quote I've ever heard about Dance Music ( in it's modern form)
came from Chuck Dee from PE :-

    'It's all disco to me.....'

and it is.....f*ck it man I like techno , I like house, I like D&B (OK bias because my missus spins it...), but seriously folks there's good and bad in all genres and why?....because it reflects life itself.....so big up the good, and laugh / ignore the bad...

Perhaps techno is slowly dividing itself into more seperate subgenres? Who knows. Who cares...just play what you like, and don't pay attention to the rest, works for me.

Im not a house man myself, it just doesnt have what it takes to move me. I find it too basic, doesnt really challenge my mind.
The bpm also comes into play as well, i need something a little bit more up beat and pumping to get the blood flowing in me body.

    Cheers

See we were finally getting somewhere and then comes that not so bright post from Skarabex. Anyway, I agree with Zahn. But I´m not simply talking about techno, also music that doesn´t have to "move you". Personally i like house a lot gives a great atmosphere to a party.
My bag when it comes to techno would have to be stuff more in the direction of meta and surface, maybe not the best at parties but hey. After 5 years or so of buying techno vinyl you tend to get extremely picky about the sound you´re into, that´s why its important to remember that others are into other things and you can never bash them for it. Bottom line, good music is always good music.

i wonder if there is any money to be made in T-shirts that say "I killed the techno scene"....

but back on topic, no, i don't think house is a problem for techno. people listen to music at different levels on different occassions for different reasons. "intellectual" music (which some but not all techno is) is never going to appeal to a really wide audience, because only a small number of people are actually listening carefully enough to appreciate. nothing wrong with that either. just different strokes for different folks.
