    Default 303 distortion?

Can anyone help here, particually producers....

I need advice on a good distortion pedal, or device, at the moment i run my freebass through a crap crap CRAP behringer pedal, which just makes it sound like a lorry going over a greenhouse. Or, i can distort it on the gain using my old behringer mixer, but it adds colouring to it which isnt my taste.

The Audiorealism Bassline is good, but the digital distortion sounds really rubbish, you can hear the aliasing in there like mad. I know theres millions of distortion plug-ins, but i reckon they all sound the same to a degree, the Ohmacide plug-in is wicked, but again, i think theres too much variation in the distortion and colouration.

I want distorted acid A-La Routemaster!

    You simply can`t beat Amplitube.

I have a great time with the Alesis Bitrman for odd dist and fx....but to be honest...a good old fashioned boss Heavy Metal pedal does the trick pretty nicely.

yeah the heavy metal pedal is pretty cheap and easy to get....there is a newer version called the metal man or some such thing that has better eqs and such....

both are basic boss guitar pedal, black with orange writing on it.

I think good valve overdrive is better than distortion.
Distortion kills the beautiful roundness of the 303

I've played with it a bit. But, not on any synths. Just drums so far. It's definitely nice.

the routemaster sound was a real 303 put through a boss distortion pedal
    ( the yellow one )

the suf sound was a 303 straight into a channel of a mackie 24/8/2 with the gain turned up full and the mids and highs up , then just keep the fader low
and you'll need a noise gate.
you can get almost the same sound from smaller mackie desks too
very smooth , especially with a bit of chorus on it too.
    great for melodic lead lines

have you tried NI guitar rig?
thats pretty good for software distortion.

That is, by far, my favorite "distortion" plug, even though it's more than that. I absolutely love what can be done with it. In one project, I morphed a standard 909 clap into sounding like a talking scream. Really amazing what sounds you can get out of it if you **** with it enough.

My friend showed me how to bui;ld a pretty cool overdrivbe unit from an old cassette tape walkman. Just hardwire a jack input where the tape heads connect to the rest of the circuitry and control the drive with the volume on the walkman.

The whole thing only cost 25p, but unfortunately it also sounds like it cost only 25p!
