Anyone got any recommendations for the PC? I wanna get my HD in tip top condition. Used to use Diskepper but times have moved on since my last defrag lol
The latest version of Diskkeeper is very good. Has some cool features like constant monitoring.
i've always just used the Defrag tool in windows
is this no good?
iDefrag for OSX.
Diskeeper for PC.
Diskeeper is I believe made by the same people as the standard Windows Defrag program, but Microsoft wanted the basic, whereas this is the thorough version.
This may have changed with Vista. Been a OSX boy for nearly 2 yrs so don't care. ;)

o&o defrag.
or:
Auslogics Disk Defrag *free*

well, i've installed both and i have to say, i really like this auto-defrag option on diskeeper. thanks guys. basically it defrags your drive when it's not being used - so much better than these ridiculous schedule's you have to make.
i think i'll be using this from now on!
:)
Don't know which is the best but i use the free JkDefrag which does a great job imo:

O&O DeFrag
This is the best I have used.

Do you need to defrag on Macs then?
You don't on Linux. The filesystem does it for you.
Well. You have disk utility which repairs permissions and things. Basically if you move a lot of stuff around, delete a lot of stuff or install/uninstall it can be good to repair the permissions, which in my limited understanding is equilivant to defragging.
iDefrag was recommended to me as my 2ghz. dual core 2gb rammed up beast would struggle. It's tidied everything up and is slightly faster I guess.
But, it's not really something I understand. Or attempt to.
