    MAckie Onyx Satellite.
Amazing price, great quality, hot signal output.
    Solitary by nature.
    Isolation is the gift.

so unbeatable that I bought 2 of them. one for the desktop, one for the laptop!

apparently you can chain them so 2 can become one with double ins/outs but I haven't had the need to try this yet...

ive been looking at external soundcards too and am unsure why some cost £100 and some cost £600 with all the same in and outs. Surely its just an analogue to digital converter and they convert at the same rate.. 24bits etc.

So what benifts do you get from buying a more expensive one?

Excuss my ignorance but dont understand why a more expensive one is better quality when it converts at the same rate and has the same amount of ins and outs... what makes the more expensive ones better quality? better quality wireing?? an extra £200 for that.. im obviously missing the point somewhere

anyone care to enlighten me.. please

    many thanks

Multiple AD converters all may end up at the same bit depth and sample rate at the end, but how much of the original wave form actually made it over?
That's where the quality of the converter comes into play.
Cheaper components will simply not sound as good.

Top end ones are surely MOTU, RME and Apogee... probably some others I've missed.

Ok cheers for the answer.. does makes sense.

just being abit cautious as cards like the motu are top end of my budget and want to make sure its worth the extra cash. is it a huge improvment from say an m-audio.

Im intrested in the m-audio one because i can run it from my usb port. ive only got a 4pin firewire. runing the soundcard from a non mains power source like a generator would proberbly be a big no no.. i might be wrong.

    Thanks again
